Here's a picture by dr Davis on droplets with and without a mask

If anyone's interested.

He says himself this is not how they test for viruses but larger droplets but if they reduce any bugs then that's positive.

BlackPetunia · 22/07/2020 17:34

What does ‘dr Davis’ say about the wearing of a mask 8 hours a day?

Breathing in mask fibres?
Breathing in your own breath?

Is that ok health wise? We aren’t all going to end up with mask related health problems from continual wear?

openplankitchen · 22/07/2020 17:37

What bacteria do we catch from respiratory droplets?

bodgeitandscarper · 22/07/2020 17:47

"What bacteria do we catch from respiratory droplets?". Quick google brings up Streptococcus pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Chlamydophila pneumoniae.

Hoggleludo · 22/07/2020 18:13

But he also says that he coughed. Sneezed etc from certain distances away. So whether they be large or small. It doesn't matter.

This is his Twitter if anyone wants to give it a read. He's a microbiologist.

He's also taking questions @BlackPetunia. So I'm sure he'd be happy to answer yours.

People who work in surgery and other professions who wear masks every day don't have mask related health problems.

TheGreatWave · 22/07/2020 18:22

I am not sure that really proves the need for masks. Don't sing in the middle of Tesco and cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze is the advice that is needed.

I'm sure they are better quality than some of the masks out there though.

That's the trouble with 'quick google searches' 😉
BlackPetunia · 22/07/2020 19:24

@NerrSnerr do they wear them all day long though? And are they specifically for that job

Retail are making do with any old masks

Hoggleludo · 22/07/2020 19:24

@PinkSparklyPussyCat

Ha. No they aren't. Trust me! They are the big standards nhs ones

Openplankitchen, you asked what bacteria you can catch from respiratory droplets, as far as I'm aware 'walking pneumonia' is contagious and transmitted by droplets? I could well be wrong as Im not medically trained, but would a mask not p
rotect against these?

TheGreatWave · 22/07/2020 22:39

You would think 75 years on from this we would have got the message.

"Coughs and sneezes spread diseases."
