Driving lessons - would you?

DH was just about to start his lessons before lockdown. We are in our thirties, I can't drive for medical reasons and he's never had the money to spare before now. Now lessons are starting up again and we're being asked whether he'd like to rebook. The driving school is very on the ball with a huge list of safety precautions to be followed by teachers and students (it is a large school so no chance of flying under the radar if they wanted to ignore guidance). Obviously though a big school means more students in and out of cars on a daily basis.

Would you rebook lessons at this time or wait? We're itching for him to get his licence but unfortunately I'm slightly medically vulnerable so we've held off so far. We're avoiding public transport at the moment so would love to get on the road and actually... have the ability to go somewhere, anywhere, but it seems a bit up in the air regarding risk. TTC also, so a car would be useful sooner rather than later.

My 17 year old has restarted her driving lessons. Everything is cleaned between lessons, windows open (she was allowed to close hers when the rain came in but her instructor got wet), masks optional at the moment. No calls from test and trace yet. Getting her mobile and off public transport to 6th form is a priority for me, although test cancelled twice and no signs of it being rearranged again yet.

My dad is a driving instructor. He cleans his car between every customer, they both wear masks and use hand sanitiser. The windows are kept open... He was worried about going back to work but been okay so far

If you are in England, this data may help you decide. It's much more detailed data than has previously been published about how many people have tested positive recently. It covers the period 6-12 July. You need to bear in mind that positive test numbers are only given for places with three or more positive tests, so an area with no data shown may have had zero, one or two positive test results in the relevant period.

He should go for it! I've restarted my driving lessons- the small risk us completely worth it. My instructor doesn't wear a mask as she doesn't want pupils to mishear an instruction. She also doesn't insist on us wearing one. She is teaching fewer pupils each day to allow for cleaning between lessons etc.

Good to hear people have had positive experiences so far. Might call the school just to see availability as it seems they're also quite swamped at the moment.
