Hairdresser visors

Couldn't find a thread about this which surprised me.
As far as I can make out customers at hairdressers should wear face mask but the stylists only wear a visor (which doesn't offer any protection other than preventing droplets landing on their face). I have read a couple of studies reporting transmission of virus to visor wearers where those wearing face masks were protected.
Why (other than another incompetent, nonsensical rule from govt) are visors but no face mask recommended for stylists (who are literally breathing down the neck of customers for >15 minutes)?

Because it's a 'work it out for yourself' winds me up. Just so you can't point the finger of blame. You're right. Visors on there own are about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

Masks not a requirement for customers either.

I think the government are reluctant to order people to wear masks whilst at work, apart from hospitals etc. Going in shops and on public transport are considered voluntary activities but people have to work so being told to wear a mask for 8 hours every day is different to being told to wear one for short periods of voluntary activities.

My friend is a hairdresser. She is wearing a mask and visor. Her clients are wearing masks. Other risk reducing things being done too

Wearing a visor by itself just seems moronic when the person having their haircut would be diagonally down in front of you - exactly where exhaled air exits from the visor. Why masks are not a requirement in this situation is baffling !

May have been on here I read it that 2 hairdressers in the US caught the virus and one transmitted it to the other , presumably on a break. But of 139 people they cut the hair of , no one caught it !? They were both wearing masks while seeing clients.

Masks in my hairdressers. They said the visors are a waste of time as any droplets would fall straight onto clients faces when hovering over them cutting hair. All customers are required to wear masks too.

I've been wondering about this too - it seems really stupid. I think it's to do with the fact that the hairdressers have to wear whatever protection they wear, all working day. But agree that droplets directed down and forwards onto your head and face by a visor is bloody crazy! I rang my salon today (have a haircut booked for tomorrow) to double-check the salon protocol and said nicely-but-firmly, that I would like my hairdresser to wear a mask PLEASE (if he wants to wear a visor too then fine) and of course I'll be wearing one. The salon director seemed a bit taken aback but I pointed out that when my booking was taken, I was told this was an option. I was very nice and said thank you a lot. Grin

it's crazy though, isn't it?
