Sick of conspiracy theories

And I've just been called a Karen and a snowflake on Facebook - and then deleted - because I disagreed with what they were saying, which was that we are all about to be microchipped as part of this "plandemic" and that the masks are not only the government's way of controlling us but also for sinister purposes. These people (the man and his friends) are absolutely obsessed to the point of severe paranoia, and I'm getting sick of it so he did me a favour really 😂 But it did irritate me being called a Karen and a snowflake. I can't stand the whole Karen thing.

Yep, we have one in our street, I have to cross the road to avoid...coronavirus is a cover up for people getting sick and dying from 5G related radiation poisoning. Bill gates is trying to murder us all etc etc.

I understand that people (myself included) have some questions and possible concerns about a vaccination that has been whizzed through so fast but to turn it down because you think you are being microchipped is just crazy paranoia!!

PuzzledObserver · 23/07/2020 19:15

I keep rotating round three different approaches to this stuff:

1). Disbelief that anyone can actually believe this stuff, resulting in attempting to argue with them

  1. Being either amused or exasperated, and scrolling on by

  2. Being worried that if people can believe this, they can believe anything.... where will this end?

None of these positions is entirely satisfactory.

forgetthehousework · 23/07/2020 19:22

I really must join facebook, I'm missing out on sooooooo much!

FriedasCarLoad · 23/07/2020 19:30

I was "informed" today that Bill Gates

  1. is behind the pandemic
  2. is behind the plan to microchip everyone
  3. is a human trafficker
  4. eats humans

Yes. Eats humans.

jasjas1973 · 23/07/2020 19:35

My neighbour for 21 years, yesterday told me that Gates is behind the rush for a vaccine, that he wants to smart chip us all, China and Gates developed CV-19, that the deaths are to reduce pension payouts..... he then said that if you dig deep on the internet... IT all becomes clear.

Before yesterday, i thought he was just an ordinary guy.... now i want to move!

BackInTime · 23/07/2020 19:46

I also get this from a family member that is far down the rabbit hole of the fake virus conspiracy theories. I often get sent links to YouTube videos with American scientists or doctors peddling this stuff and if you listen to enough of it they can sound pretty credible. However if you dig a little deeper these people are usually far right Trump supporting loonies or perhaps people with links to organisations or companies that might benefit from creating uncertainty about vaccines for example.

DebLou47 · 23/07/2020 20:04

I am more sick of the conspiracy theories !!!
China released on purpose
Being chipped
Bill gates
Forced to have a vaccine

Drives me insane

Mimishimi · 23/07/2020 23:16

I just got this from my brother whilst looking at this thread.

Thats very nice of |||, I cant imagine he would be engrossed in the finer detail of hair/makeup! Salas just got a case about Deutsche (the bank that helped Hitler secure his oil, and destroyed all their data during 9/11 after some intense activity moments prior to that) protecting Epstein and other money laundering issues. They are a Bain client along with Monsanto, Microsoft, Haliburton etc.
The guy was fully decked out with fedex truck and uniform. Shot her son point blank as he answered the door. FBI took over, and soon after declared the shooter to have shot himself. Ughhh these pesky murderers have a habit of turning the gun on themselves. So much remorse I guess. (Sarcasm)
Its basically Bain once again saying 'dont f with us!'. Nothing unusual for their ilk.

Anyhow, that Irish youtube is fun. I really should get back into losing weight myself. bought an indoor bike thingo. Urghh. I only successfully lost alot around when Mum passed cos I was running a bit almost every day and being picky about food. Its hard. I hope your getting somewhere with it. Anyhow, I will call soon and say hello..

@Needcoffeecoffeecoffee

It's the term "sheeple" that gets to me. I've done some defriending/blocking on social media but the steeple stuff comes up in totally random posts/comments
The word sheeple gets to me too! But I find the people who use that term are all posting the same stuff and are clearly sheep in their own way, rather than actually being sceptical and questioning.
Toothsil · 24/07/2020 10:09

@FriedasCarLoad eats humans 😂 That madee laugh!

This morning's little gem on the page of one of my other conspiracy theorist "friends" is that she has said all along that the purpose of covid-19 is to make us a cashless society 😂 It's all a plan by the government to control us by making us use cards so they can watch our every move. She also said that not using cash will make no difference to the spread of germs because the shop assistants are touching the things we are buying so what difference does it make if they also touch cash 😂😂 She finished by saying "when will the sheeple wake up to what's really going on? God help us all"

Sorry, that should say made ME laugh

Much of the conspiracy stuff is too extreme. I don't think the Royal family are lizards, for example. However I do think people in powerful positions can be corrupt, dishonest or even amoral. Placing complete trust in 'the powers that be' (anywhere in the world) seems naive. For one thing, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the coronavirus had accidentally come from the lab which is so close to the first outbreaks. I don't trust the Chinese government to be honest. To me that is a theory, not a 'conspiracy theory'.

GherkinTherapy · 24/07/2020 11:06

My hairdresser was explaining 5G, Bill Gates and the vaccine chip to me. The government are going to make life very difficult for people like her who refuse the vaccine, she probably won't even be allowed to work. After we had a bit of a debate she had to admit she isn't one of the sheep (presumably I am). She gets her information from people who know, whatever that means.

I think the worrying thing is how many people believe this stuff, it is so divisive and if a vaccine is developed that gives long term immunity I doubt enough people could be persuaded to have it create herd immunity.

KatherineParr4 · 24/07/2020 11:12

@Onestepup

Agree with you. Anyone who believes what we are told at face value is naive. I think probably many of the conspiracy theories are true . Others aren’t. I can’t swallow the lizard idea either.

Toothsil · 24/07/2020 12:43

@TheWristBoundLatexBitch I love that! It's pretty much exactly what DH said. I bet if I posted anything like that on my page, there would be yet another status about Karens and snowflakes or perhaps I might get deleted by someone else 😂

@GherkinTherapy I hear this a lot about vaccines and Bill Gates and they whole it's all a big pharma government plan to make billions and micro chip us at the same time. It is concerning because if there is a vaccine people will be reluctant to take it up.
