Restaurants - only two households?

I suggested meeting for lunch with a good friend of mine in a couple of weeks. She has suggested bringing another friend of hers along. I know this friend and she is lovely. In normal times, I wouldn't object to her coming along to anything but I've said I'm uncomfortable with this as I believe only two households are supposed to meet in pubs and restaurants. I have suggested the three of us do something outdoors. Am I imagining the two households only thing? Worried I just look awkward and as though i don't want other friend to come!!

rc22 · 21/07/2020 20:11

Interested to know this too. May be doing a camping trip with 2 others and need to know if we will be ok eating out together.

Where do you live? The guidelines have been different at times for different parts of the UK.

MrsHerculePoirot · 21/07/2020 20:15

It’s either 6 people (from any number of households) or two households (no limit).

frasersmummy · 21/07/2020 20:18

oh sorry I was following scottish guidelines forgetting its different in Boris land

but either way it looks like you will be within the rules

Thunderpunt · 21/07/2020 20:18

@MrsHerculePoirot

It’s either 6 people (from any number of households) or two households (no limit).
This is correct information for England
GreyishDays · 21/07/2020 20:20

As MrsHP said.

JellyBabiesSaveLives · 21/07/2020 20:27

In England it is 6 people from different households outside, or members of 2 households inside. And you still need to be 2m from the people from other households, or 1m but wearing masks ...

Or, you’re also allowed to use your own judgement, apparently

MorelloKisses · 21/07/2020 20:31

Jelly has it for England:

It’s either 6 people (from any number of households) if you are meeting OUTDOORS.

or two households (no limit) if meeting INDOORS

So most likely you will be indoors, max two households

rc22 · 21/07/2020 20:34

Sorry. Yes in England. Thank you everyone.

2 households, or 3 if 2 are in a support group with each other, as they are treated as 1. Theoretical limit is 30 people, but the likelihood of 2 households reaching that number is pretty low.

We're opening our restaurant back up on Friday - almost exactly 4 months after we closed our doors. I've been eating sleeping and breathing Covid restaurant rules/risks etc. for the past couple of weeks.

Yetiyoga · 21/07/2020 20:48

So can we eat in an outside area of a restaurant/ pub with 2 others (where all 3 are different households)

Yetiyoga · 21/07/2020 20:50

Scrap that. I can see that it is OK!

Charleyhorses · 21/07/2020 21:02

I've booked for my mum's 80th. We are 7, so need 2 tables cos max of 6 per table I was told.

mosscarpet · 22/07/2020 07:22

just to point out that it is now only guidance and not law. But what will actually limit you is the rules of the individual restaurant. For example, we have been unable to book a table for our household anywhere because everywhere we have tried will not take bookings for more then 6 people. We are a family of 8 (me, dh and 6 adult/ teen dc all living in same house)

Charleyhorses · 24/07/2020 09:26

The restaurant we are going to is doing one table of 3 and one of 4. It's not ideal but it will do!
