Just found this link, but surely the numbers can't be right? My local hospital had around 200 cv deaths, but apparently the whole of Portsmouth only has about 200? And London only had a couple of hundred cv deaths? Someone explain why this website is right please, as the numbers are too good to be true!

London seems to be separated into boroughs. I just did Westminster and Camden as the first ones I thought of and it was 184 and 159 respectively.

WindFlower92 · 21/07/2020 13:25

I would have thought those numbers would be much higher! Unless I've got the dates wrong - is it from 10th July or up to 10th do you know? @pleasecaffeinateme

I don't think you can look up London as a whole. It's the individual areas within London. The numbers will be much higher than 200.

Burpalot · 21/07/2020 14:22

If I search my London postcode it comes up with the borough. 300ish

knittingaddict · 21/07/2020 14:27

When I search Portsmouth it's 105 deaths up to 10th July, 505 cases up to 20th July and 3 new cases between 10th to 16th July.

So was my hospital reporting wrongly @knittingaddict when they updated on fb with 200 deaths? Confused! Confused

@WindFlower92 sorry I've no idea.

Flagsfiend · 21/07/2020 15:19

Maybe the deaths on there are based on usual residence, but the hospital took patients from outside Portsmouth, which makes sense as I assume it is a large hospital.

SunbathingDragon · 21/07/2020 15:23

Portsmouth and Southampton are counted independently to Hampshire. Both have big hospitals (as do other towns and cities) and patients do not need to live in the city or county.

knittingaddict · 21/07/2020 17:58

I remember reading somewhere that they use place of residence to allocate deaths/cases to a particular area. As people have said above that seems to explain the difference between a hospitals figures and the regional figures

WTFisthisabout · 21/07/2020 18:11

They use place of residence for the stats rather than the hospital, unless that is unknown, then they use the location of the hospital.

WindFlower92 · 21/07/2020 22:18

Fair enough, in that case I will use this to keep an eye on the figures!
