If you pay for school music lessons.. what has happened during the crisis

Just that really. Our child has had school lessons - nothing has continued - and we have been charged full amount with no discussion (state school).

They also have private piano and singing and these have continued over Zoom.

This is not a discussion about income for those teachers - I know they would have lost loads of cash and I feel very sorry for them. I am just interested in what other schools have done in this situation

My sons guitar lesson are provided by the local music service. They did put up a few videos for kids to have a go of but no actual lessons so have refunded us all 30% of the annual cost. Next term they want to do lessons over zoom so I haven’t signed up as ds is only 7 and a beginner so really needs it to be in person so will wait till they’re back to normal.

Primary school kids we were told to liase directly with the local music hub and accessed online lessons this way.
(I am very grateful their teachers were adaptable enough to do this as my kods would have really suffered if they hadn't been able to continue progressing. And actually because of lockdown they have had more time to practise).

Both have had zoom lessons instead, both music and speech and drama.

Mine got free guitar lessons at school because he did GCSE Music. Because theses were free to us, and he sucks at guitar, we didn't follow this up. We paid his peripatetic brass tutor directly and these lessons have carried on via Skype. I think it will be a real threat to uptake of music subjects at GCSE and beyond, sadly if things such as groups and choirs can't be restored at some point. Apparently you can enter exams online but it's a techno faff.
