Pregnant - would you travel to Ibiza in 2 weeks for a hen do?

My best friend is due to go on a hen do for her cousin in 2 weeks time. They're very close, like sisters as both are only children and grew up living close by. My best friend is 6 months pregnant though...She has a partner who would look after their two other kids while she's away. It's Monday-Friday at a house with pool in Ibiza. My friend is worried about the COVID19 risk but really wants to go as would like to see her family members who she's not seen for months and also for a bit of R&R in the sun. I'm worried for her to be honest. Is it risky? What are your thoughts? She's not spoken to her midwife at all. Her partner is relaxed about it and wants her to have some time for her.

I definitely wouldn't.

fadingfast · 20/07/2020 19:49

No chance.

Natalie654321 · 20/07/2020 19:53

I am 24 weeks pregnant and would definitely not be travelling abroad!

zafferana · 20/07/2020 20:10

No way! Pregnant women are in the vulnerable group and your priority is your baby OP, not your friend's hen do.

Pretty sure you're allowed to fly until 36 weeks? [/quote]
Yes, probably with some. I'm pretty sure it was less with some airlines when I flew pregnant last time but you're right that the risk is slim, but given how quickly things are changing with Corona I'm not sure I'd fancy the risk.

I was stopped and asked for for to fly letter at only 26 weeks, and I carried my notes.

Chungus · 20/07/2020 21:34

@2155User It clearly isn't. Plane travel is most definitely not essential for living a full and unrestricted life. Thankfully, for many reasons.

ihatethecold · 21/07/2020 08:30

Regardless of the flying rules you absolutely cannot social distance on a flight.
People were removing masks flying out from the Uk last week. The flight was lively.
Coming back from Ibiza yesterday people were more compliant.
About 50% of people on the island were wearing masks.
That includes restaurant and shop workers.

No.

But I personally wouldn’t have gone anywhere at 6 months pregnant anyway, complications can happen so fast.

halcyondays · 22/07/2020 17:38

No of course not.

thecatneuterer · 22/07/2020 19:00

Regardless of the pregnancy and Covid thing I wouldn't because mask wearing is obligatory everywhere in Spain at the moment, even in the street (and so I'm guessing even the beach) and I certainly couldn't cope with that.

Scbchl · 22/07/2020 19:06

I'd go without a second thought.

Scrambledbeans · 22/07/2020 19:13

I would, and currently am on a European Island holiday at 30 weeks pregnant. I am under two consultants and both were happy to sign a fit to fly for me and had no issue with me travelling for 10 days.

Bumble84 · 22/07/2020 19:21

No, I don’t think she should be going. It’s the same as someone over 70 going. They are in the same risk group.

You couldn’t pay me to get on a plane at the moment.

WorriedMummy2020 · 23/07/2020 21:22

Thanks for all the replies. She is definitely going. Turns out I got her gestation wrong. She's only 4.5mths pregnant. Not sure that makes much difference though.

I think that does make a difference. The second trimester between 3-6 months is considered the safer time. I would advise her to ask not to go through the x-ray machines though. I only found out after my trip when i was pregnant that you are within your rights to ask not to to through them if you are pregnant. Apparently there can be a small risk to the baby. But it sounds like your friend is a bit of a risk taker anyway so I doubt she'll listen!

CrispEtiquette · 24/07/2020 15:43

The x ray machines I believe emit less ionising radiation than you'd be exposed to on the plane and the risk is minuscule, although saying that I know I'd still probably avoid them if pregnant or with small child since there's another option

Some airports don't use them

manicinsomniac · 24/07/2020 23:58

I wouldn't go at the moment even without being pregnant and I'm one of the most 'covid blase' people I know personally.
