Covid and asthma

Anyone had any experience or know anyone with asthma who has caught covid? My dh suffers from quite serious asthma and uses his inhaler daily. In the 6 years we've been together he's never had an attack but he has had two or three before that, one of which required an ambulance.

Now that lockdown restrictions are easing I'm eager to get out and about with dc but am also very worried about dh and wondering what the implications would be if he got it? Are asthma sufferers a lot more at risk or is it really luck of the draw just how badly each individual is affected?

Following this as something with asthma! I'm nervous about getting back to normal life but at the same time know I need to try to start going to shops etc. I haven't been full shielding but have been avoiding shops and busy places, working from home etc.

Dp and I are asthmatic and we both had it. He is a worse asthmatic than me (he's on fostair and takes oral steroids fairly regularly).

He had to be prescribed steroids but tbh he would have done even if he had picked up a 'normal' chest infection. I had it for a week with one night that was v scary. He had it for longer and was sicker than me but weirdly never coughed like I did.

I've had worse chest infections than Covid and I've had flu and that was worse than Covid too. The doctor told me they weren't seeing asthmatics were affected any worse than they would ordinarily be with something like this - it was more people with diabetes/high bp. So if he asthma with something else I would probably be concerned.

But everyone does seem to get it differently. I think we were lucky in that we got it fairly early (March) and had a light touch dose of it.

I have mild asthma. Use brown inhaler twice a day but cant remember the last time I used my blue inhaler. I’ve started getting back to some kind of normal, going to shops and eaten out today. My DC will both be in separate bubbles of 60 children come September so makes no sense for me avoid all other social situations anymore. I am still WFH but to be honest if the office let us back I’d love to go.

The week before lockdown a colleague I had been in close contact with came down with all the classic Covid symptoms, and the week after this DD2 developed a cough for a few days so I’m hoping I may have had it and been asymptomatic...wishful thinking maybe Grin
I’m sure I also read on here that a nurse with mild asthma had the loss of smell / taste as their only symptom.

I had very mild asthma, literally used an inhaler once or twice a year. Then got suspected covid. Four months on I'm on preventer inhaler, blue inhaler and had a course of steroids.

My lungs are fucked.

But, not everyone gets it badly, I think I was unlucky. I've got type a blood and apparently that's connected with severity of symptoms

My DH is on Fostair and usually gets bad cough with viral infections but he sailed through Covid with just a couple of overnight fevers and a sore throat. My colleague who also has asthma just lost smell and was fatigued.
There's some helpful information on the Asthma UK website

I know someone with mild asthma (they use the standard brown preventer inhaler with no add ons like Montelukast).

They spent several weeks in ICU with Covid to receive oxygen.

They are better now and able to work from home.

I know 7 others who have had Covid and aren't asthmatic. None were admitted to hospital.

I've got asthma and caught covid in march. My lungs are struggling to recover, still having a lot of chest pain and breathlessness but I'm ok. Was on symbicort prior which has been doubled and have added in montelukast and had 3 courses of steroids since I caught it, but it does seem to be settling down now.

I have asthma - worse than mild but not debilitating on a daily basis. I use my blue inhalor approx once a day. Didn't make any shielding lists. Had confirmed Covid in mid Feb.

The one thing it didn't affect at the time was my breathing... Had headaches, fever, aches, cough, was laid out for about a week. I did have very mild breathlessness for about a month after. Was proactivly taking my brown inhalor morning and night.

I did have a wierd mini asthma attack about a month or so post-Covid, first attack in years. No further issues though. Breathlessness fully gone now.
