If you had Covid19 and lived on your own, what helped?

Was there anything that helped, beyond loo roll etc? I’m a teacher so fully expecting to have to self isolate at some point.

Having a friend to leave cooked meals on the doorstep when I was too ill to manage to cook.
But the biggest help was the ambulance that took me to hospital after two weeks of struggling to breathe and only getting 2 hours sleep a night!
Living alone with Covid is frightening and exhausting, unless you get it very mildly. I’d advise you to plan ahead to have an agreement with a covid buddy, that you will shop and cook for whichever of you is ill. A good neighbour, friend, or volunteer from your local church.
If you’re just isolating but not ill, it’s vastly easier - you just need to arrange shopping and have some source of entertainment at home.

Eeeek. Are you on the mend now?

It depends how seriously you get it. In my case it was like a very bad dose of flu, so pretty much what you would do with that. What would you do if you had flu?

It depends how you define “on the mend”, OP! I got out of hospital three months ago, but my lungs have not recovered. I have to keep coughing to clear them, I’m breathless at 200 yards and I have post viral fatigue and weak aching muscles. I’ve had to hire a gardener, I can’t even mow my lawn any more.
I was a previously fit 64 year old - happily climbed hills, hiked 9 miles, played 2 hours of table tennis at a weekly club. Now I spend a lot of time on the sofa, trying to conserve enough energy to do the hoovering. It’s like suddenly ageing 20 years, and v depressing. I have occasional better days, but if I get carried away and try to do too much, I get wiped out for the next four days, so I have to pace myself.
Long tail Covid affects at least 10% of victims - even youngsters. I read of one 30 year old personal trainer who was left virtually bed bound. It’s a vile illness, and surviving the acute attack is only the beginning.

@Babdoc so sorry to hear that

DollyMixtureLulus · 19/07/2020 20:25

God Babdoc, I’m so sorry. I hope things look up soon.

I’m obnoxiously healthy tbh. If I were sick I’d have called my mum, but I couldn’t do that with Covid. I’ve got a few friends who would hopefully be a buddy for me though.

From speaking to others who have had symptoms, I'd say you need a plentiful supply of paracetamol for the fever and some handy bottles to put water in for by your bed so if you feel ill you can drink without getting up.
