Delivery passes

NeurotrashWarrior · 18/07/2020 13:02

I'm trying to work out when we might've able to buy a delivery pass.

I've seen a couple of threads mention that they'd had emails from supermarkets saying that as shielding is pausing in August, normal service will resume? Will I be able to get one then?

Back story:

We have been buying for the in-laws as well, they log on to my account and add to our order. I've been entitled to one delivery due to being vulnerable but we've not taken it as my husband would do click and collect and drop off the them too.

I've tried to encourage them to sign up for their own delivery; I'm not sure if it's them or my husband who isn't sure, as they do get deliveries of meat from the butcher.

Anyway, over the summer and in September when I'm back at work, and also if any of us get quarantined I think we will need to be able to get our own deliveries as I used to pre Covid and also send one to them if needed. if they'd sign up that would be easier but hey ho

Bump?

Shielding is pausing, but the government announcement said clearly that the newly deshielded will retain supermarket priority

(I guess this is because we’re the first back indoors if there are local or national rises in case numbers, and they don’t want us stranded again like err were in March/April)

I think the supermarkets might be hoping that in the next couple of (warm, sunny) months, people will
use new freedoms and some of those who have used deliveries will make some trips to the shops

So there might be more slots available.

I expect previous customers who were not able to book slots will be the first to get greater access (and some will have gone elsewhere, so not all will be returning), then ability to book widened further

I think all the majors are increasing delivery capacity, so there should be considerably more slots up for grabs

WhentheDealGoesDown · 18/07/2020 14:26

I renewed my Tesco delivery pass today and noticed that they were taking a limited amount of new customers.

NeurotrashWarrior · 18/07/2020 15:39

Ah I see thanks ivampire.

Thanks for that info when.

I can get one delivery per week but if things go wrong and we are in quarantine my in-laws will need a slot. Perhaps they will sign up then; I'm concerned they will miss out though.

I'm tempted to open an account in their name that we can activate, or maybe sign up to Tesco's and then we could get them a delivery.

OP posts:
NeurotrashWarrior · 18/07/2020 15:40

There's definitely loads more slots available but I think it's limited to one a week...

OP posts:
NeurotrashWarrior · 18/07/2020 15:49

Actually after checking there now seems to be the option to book more than once.

Now to work out if I can send it to another address?!

OP posts:
WhentheDealGoesDown · 18/07/2020 15:56

I think you can have more than one a week now with Tesco as on mine it just says I can’t have one on a day already booked but the rest of the week is available whereas it wasn’t a few weeks ago

NeurotrashWarrior · 18/07/2020 16:03

Yes it looks like that's the same with Sainsbury's. I can also add an address too so I do feel happier.

OP posts:
WhentheDealGoesDown · 18/07/2020 16:53

Now is probably the best time to start one as we will probably be still queueing in the winter when it is cold and wet and a lot more people will think online is a better option and it will get busy again.

NeurotrashWarrior · 18/07/2020 17:37

Well, that's my argument to Dh. He says I'm over thinking. Hmm I may set up an account with Tesco now and even see if I can get a delivery pass.

OP posts:
NeurotrashWarrior · 18/07/2020 17:37

Then at least they could take control of that one.

I'm a delivery pass holder with Sainsbury's and pre-Covid used to get two deliveries a week. At the beginning of lockdown we were prioritised as vulnerable (Sainsbury's emailed me and said we'd been prioritised rather than us applying) so I've had weekly deliveries throughout. In the last few weeks I've been able to get my usual weekly delivery and also a C&C for my mid week top up. I've not checked as to whether I can book twice weekly deliveries yet but I'm happy doing C&C and may carry on once the pandemic is over.
Also during lockdown my delivery pass was automatically renewed I didn't need to do anything.

Juo · 18/07/2020 19:31

All the supermarkets offered me slots as shielded. I prefer Tesco and already had a delivery saver but sainsburys, Iceland, morrisons and ocado all gave me priority slots so I imagine you could use a different supermarket?

Bluebellbike · 18/07/2020 23:00

My daughter has been shielding all through lock down. She hs a prepaid Morrison delivery pa's but H been unable to get any deliveries from them even though she is registered as vulnerable. Thankfully she discovered that Asda will give her priority on free deliveries so she is not too bothered about not being able to use her paid for Morrison pass. I just hope Asda will continue to allow her the deliveries.

Keepdistance · 18/07/2020 23:49

Asda have been pretty good. Ive managed to book they seem to have a large capacity. But we book 2-3w in advance.
Ive signed up for Sainsbury's now and already had tesco. As tbh it was pretty annoying to be blocked as a new customer when we have bought in store before (sains) and have a nectar card we use there.
Will probably do iceland and morrisons too.
I wish lidl did deliveries as it is so much cheaper. Even if they just did click and collect.
I aoso think the queue s around xmas will be insane and normally you cant get tesco xmas slots...

I find the limits frustrating as we can buy enough for several weeks at once.

My parents shielding have used tesco and Sainsbury's. And the doorstep milkman. I think its a lot easier - without kids and with only 2 as the limits arent so ridiculous. And they have as much storage space as us. With kids you have the possility they decide they dont like something or they wont eat substitutions.

I wonder if the queues might change a bit with everyone in masks.

Trackandtrace · 19/07/2020 07:46

Could you not just set up a second account with your husbands email?

Roselilly36 · 19/07/2020 07:57

I have been shielding, the supermarket I have used, gave me a priority pass free of charge, that is due to expire mid of November.

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 19/07/2020 08:02

We got an email from Ocado that they reopened deliver passed buying, and you can also book every 5 days now instead of 7. I jumped on it as don't want to be stranded again with no shipping when the second wave hits.

NeurotrashWarrior · 19/07/2020 08:15

Could you not just set up a second account with your husbands email?

I'd have to do it for my mils- I got an email from Sainsbury's and also the council saying that they'd somehow coordinated info and automatically qualified for the delivery slots due to CV/ asthma. So I don't think it would work for him; if they set one up I imagine it would be the same situation as they're in their 70s and live locally.

I need to try to have another conversation and emphasise we are t changing things now, it's just to have that system set up in readiness. I was wfh and the kids were here throughout, but will be back in the classroom and they're all back at nursery and school in sept. The likely hood of us needing to self isolate is going to be higher as we go into autumn.

Mil isn't very with technology either, she can't use a mobile phone and doesn't drive any more. Fil has an iPad and they currently log on to my own account twice a week and add shopping to ours, which Dh picks up and drops off. They get deliveries of meat though.

Meanwhile, my parents set up their own online deliveries and have been attending zoom art classes...

OP posts:
NeurotrashWarrior · 19/07/2020 08:21

Deelish yes same happened for me. You can now book many deliveries but I feel it could return to one delivery only per week in the winter if things get bad. It's the issue of track trace and isolation!

The in-laws need their own account to make best use of the service ok the winter.

Personally I'd like a delivery pass as it's just going to be easier in sept. I rarely used online delivery till I went back to work after my second; we were stretched so thinly.

OP posts:
MRex · 19/07/2020 08:39

They need to learn how to use it really, it's a standard skill for their age group now. At the start of lockdown we set up deliveries for DP and DPIL, but then after a few weeks when it was clear things weren't calming down they each set up their own. It can also be useful if they live nearby because effectively you have staggered deliveries; if you need extra milk / bread / veg they can put it onto their order. We and DPIL were doing this when random gaps showed up, while my sibling did the same with DP; often the other one could then just add lettuce / milk / eggs to their delivery to fill the gap and only be a few days without.

Redglitter · 19/07/2020 09:06

Tesco are allowing more than one order a week. Rather surprisingly I've been able to book 2 slots on the same day one for delivery to me and one for delivery to my Mums. Same day same time slot on the one account. I didnt know that was possible.

Tesco deliveries here are pretty much back to normal as far as availability is concerned

Certainly makes the delivery pass fantastic value for money

NeurotrashWarrior · 19/07/2020 09:43

MRex, yup, definitely! Fil has an amazon account...

Red, I actually think when I was playing around I can now do two deliveries on the same day (it didn't stop me!) and certainly I think I can send a delivery to them separately to us in the same week.

What is not clear is if that will remain in the autumn / winter.

I'd like a pass as it lll be cheaper! Sainsbury's aren't allowing new ones yet.

OP posts:
Northernlass99 · 19/07/2020 13:10

I have just signed up for a Tesco delivery pass today, so they have definitely re-opened applications. I thought I'd do it now whilst I can as who knows in future! Sainsbury's are still not taking new customers and I think they have been pretty poor over the pandemic tbh.

My parents are in their 80s and they manage online Tesco shopping really well once they got started.

Elouera · 19/07/2020 13:19

Do they need a pass? Would they need a delivery that often? Surely they can just sign up, and order ahead of time when needed. At asda, I usually only pay £1.50 per delivery. Presumably, if they need a pass, they can upgrade once they have already signed up or when more become available?

I'd spend some time showing them how to do it, but it seems unfair and time consuming to be at their beck and call to order their stuff and deliver it too!
