Not quite sure I understand your question but the Oxford trials appear to be going extremely well. They're going to be publishing initial findings in the Lancet any day which will (I think?) day that it is safe and produces antibodies. They're planning a challenge trial where they deliberately introduce the virus to healthy, low risk people . The positive of this is that they can get results quickly, the negative is that they run the risk of making somebody seriously ill.

Was Patrick Vallance just warning people to be patient because a vaccine rolled out to the whole country will take time so we shouldn't be expecting it to save us from the winter wave of Covid 19?

Hi this was it

Sir Patrick said there could be no assumption there will be a coronavirus vaccine in the immediate future as he dashed growing hopes that people will soon be able to get a jab to remove the threat of infection.
He told the committee the UK had a 'wide range' of vaccine options 'because we don't know which one is going to win' but he added: 'Our assumption is we won't have it and when we get it we will be thrilled.'

I read that as PV trying to manage people's expectations because getting too excited about a vaccine and expecting one very soon will make people lax about following the rules. People will be resistant to wearing masks, fail to comply with local lockdowns and generally take less care if they think that a vaccine will come and "rescue" the situation soon. They need people live as if there will be no vaccine at all, then, when it comes it will be fantastic and we can all relax. We can't afford to relax yet though.

I'm like you though @DebLou47 I search for and hold on to positive news to help my mental health. If you haven't already check out the vaccines thread and the facts and figures threads. I find both of these quite sensible and reassuring.

Very encouraging news about the Oxford vaccine Smile
and a good detailled explanation of what is happening

Their team had the massive time advantage of having nearly finished developing a MERS vaccine

It is the clear front-runner
