A colleague shared on LinkedIn "If you don't come out of the pandemic with a new skill, a new income or a new expertise you didn't lack time, you lacked discipline". Made me laugh I have to say.

What is the most useful thing you have learned in the last 4 months? Thanks to DS and a rather unfortunate increase in his screentime I can now correctly name all of the characters in PJ Masks.

I'm assuming she doesn't have children and hasn't been pushed to the absolute limit by trying to homeschooling multiple children whilst also trying to maintain some semblance of normal life.

linerforlife · 15/07/2020 17:32

I birthed a baby and looked after a newborn so yes Smile

Eastie77 · 15/07/2020 17:40

Don't worry, I understand the comments of rage are not directed at
me Smile. I felt infuriated myself when I first read it and then just laughed. So ridiculous. The colleague who posted is a complete idiot. He works in our Sales team. Not saying the two facts are related but...

Unfortunately it will probably go viral and end up on your FB feeds.

the best way to eat Brie is simply cut the smallest corner off the triangular packet and just squeeze it straight into your mouth

Brb, trying this

psychomath · 15/07/2020 17:41

Congratulations linerforlife! Flowers

I have worked throughout but cutting out a 2.5 hour commute 5 days a week has given me a ton more time. I did some embroidery (after last doing it 20 years ago), tidied all cupboards in the entire house, caught up on jobs such as decorating a bathroom and a huge open plan room, got a 65 day streak on Duolingo, read more books, done 2 exams which are work related and generally enjoyed myself a whole lot more! However, I wouldn't say I was disciplined, I just did more of the things I liked because I had more time.

Eastie77 · 15/07/2020 17:43

Oh yes, I've definetly learned that I can easily get accustomed to a sedentary lifestyle. Some of the parents on DC's class WhatsApp decided to do the couch to 5K challenge or whatever it's called. I looked into it and passed.

If he is passing off this infuriating comment as his own, you may want to gently prick his bubble with this from back in April. I remember getting irritated with it at the time.

Not only is your colleague being annoying, he is also being unoriginal!

I muted the parents whatsapp group, was sick of competetive home schooling!
Eastie77 · 15/07/2020 17:47

To be fair it was a Shared post as I mentioned, he wasn't claiming it as his own. Sadly looks as if it is doing the rounds though.

I guessed it was a bloke who put that, dick head!

Nope, I've been working more hours than ever, DH furloughed and teenagers who think they died and gone to heaven having not to get dressed and go to school.

Past 4 months have taught me, resilience, patience, budgeting skills and trying to hold it together. I've had a fair few wobbles and the DSs and DH have learnt how to deal with a peri menopausal woman on the brink of a nervous breakdown Wink

Iwalkinmyclothing · 15/07/2020 17:55

No, I lacked time, because I've been at work as normal throughout. Even if I had been furloughed I'd still not have had loads of free time, I have three dc, they would have been my priority, not gaining new skills or income or expertise.

People like your colleague think they are so wise but they are really so ignorant.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/07/2020 17:58

I've done fuck all apart from keep 7yo DS alive. I've been on furlough.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/07/2020 18:00

Oh, I did manage to finally get my Sky box down to 43% full (it was at about 90% when lockdown began).

Eastie77 · 15/07/2020 18:00

@linerforlife many congrats Smile

But what else did you do? A new baby should only have taken up around 23 hours of your time so what did you do during the other hour?

OP posts:
AvoidingTheWineAisle · 15/07/2020 18:06

I gave up drinking completely, which has been brilliant for every area of my life.

To the posters who have had babies in lockdown: you can’t get more ‘constructive’ than creating a whole human life! That might shut ‘Linkedin Wanker‘ up...

wheresmymojo · 15/07/2020 18:21

I've been irritatingly productive (but I don't post on social media suggesting anyone else needs to be)

I've set up three new businesses and taken up watercolour painting.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 15/07/2020 18:23

Well working a full time and extremely busy job which should be 40 hrs but is actually closer to 60 hrs a week, while also home educating a 6 yr old.

That's kind of taken up all the available time I have, so no new skills here.

yeOldeTrout · 15/07/2020 18:24

I haven't learnt anything new but I have done a lot of new to me things. Stuff I never ever thought I'd do so perhaps encouraging personal growth. Plus I have redecorated a lot of the house -- was well overdue. I can't believe how busy I am, somedays, esp. as my contract dropped to just 50% FTE.

SimonJT · 15/07/2020 18:24

Eurgh I hate that quote.

Anyway, I have learned how to replace normal shirt/jeans buttons with magnetic ones, there was a lot of swearing in the process. Thats the only thing as I have been working and looking after/school my five year old.

FourTeaFallOut · 15/07/2020 18:25

Time? What time?

TinkersRucksack · 15/07/2020 18:26

I have become expert at making vegan cake.

I am also far chubbier as a result

BikeRunSki · 15/07/2020 18:28

I have a far better knowledge of the KS2 curriculum if that’s what she means, particularly how to integrate teaching it whilst working from home full time , with 2 dc and only 1 laptop.

Otterses · 15/07/2020 18:29

I learnt that I like gin Grin

Cooltalkin · 15/07/2020 18:42

Been wfh , no children
Rolling out bed 850 start work
Big plans to use my 3 hrs Ex commute constructively , but despite buying a calligraphy set ( unused) and embroidery kit ( also unused) it hasn’t happened
Oh I have managed to put on weight , Which was not done constructively but mindlessly
