Secondary school planning for dc to eat outside

We have received the plans for September at dcs' school. There is no staggering of arrival times due to school buses and the impact on the ability to deliver all the lessons. One way system, year groups kept separate as much h as possible. So far sounds ok but then they say that the children will have to get their lunch from the canteen and then go straight outside to eat it. They can of course bring their own lunch but they are still required to go outside. There is nothing under cover, no seating. Dd1s year group has 300+ pupils. Wtf?
Has anyone else had similar plans? Dc are not happy at all and I don't blame them. I wouldn't want to sit outside to eat every day unless it was nice weather and there were no insects.

All these replies sayinmg they won't melt and it will do them good are horrible.
If this was an adult posting to say that their workplace was making them stand outside with no shelter for all meal breaks there would be a fucking outcry.
We would see lost of posts telling them to get their union involved and that it was ridiculous.
It is one thing for the kids to choose to take their breaks outside. It is quite another to have no choice but to stand in rain, wind, snow, sleet and hail to eat your meal day in day out.
Just because they are teenagers does not give anyone the right to treat them like this.

@rainbowunicorn as I said above, my school are reviewing the covid plans set out this week at the end of September as I'm sure most schools will, and as I'm sure most schools will the students will have wet breaks and lunches in their year group zone/classroom. No school is going to force children outside to get soaking wet. Although ofcourse secondary school students might actually start wearing their coats instead of stuffing them in their bsgs.

Totally agree. I wonder how many people saying it'll do them good have their lunch breaks from the office standing out in the cold and rain? Or now we are WFM, they'll be sitting in the house.

Horrible attutudes some of you, I pity your kids.

I agree that’s it’s highly unlikely they will need to do this for long - certainly if it went on after October half term schools would definitely try ways to mitigate it (gazebos/covered areas/wet break rooms etc). But the weather in September is usually fine, students like to go outside then, for the first few weeks at least it’s not likely to be a big deal. I don’t think schools are shrugging and thinking they’ll be huddled against walls in January. But they also don’t want to spend money making elaborate preparations that might not be needed after the first half term.
