Taking kids into shops

What is the current advice?

Mine haven't been near a shop since before lockdown, but I'm finding myself increasingly restricted and I've been putting off getting a prescription for about 10 days now!!! .

What do people think to a 7yo and toddler in pram going into a pharmacy and then a supermarket?

Yes I could ask someone to get prescription / shopping but I live 3 minutes walk away and the people I'd be asking are a 15 minute walk or a drive away.

DP is working flat out at the moment and is out the house 8-6, 6 days a week at the moment.

Round me nobody would be bothered.

Helenj1977 · 09/07/2020 15:23

I take my children shopping now. No one cares anymore.

I wear a mask and my older children do too. My 20mo doesn't and I always have her in a pushchair.

Crunchymum · 09/07/2020 15:24

Just wondering what the mood is? If there are any issues then we just can always leave!!

Do you drive? I went to a small pharmacy and left my kids in the car. I parked them right outside the door.

MsJaneAusten · 09/07/2020 15:27

I’m a single parent so have been taking mine into shops throughout lockdown. No issues.

frozendaisy · 09/07/2020 15:28

Our 9 yr old pushes the trolley round the supermarket, perhaps some people might "mind" but you need a prescription. Most people, like the vast majority, understand and don't care.

Helenj1977 · 09/07/2020 15:29

Honestly, don't worry. SD is a thing of the past and people are getting back to some sort of normal.

GameSetMatch · 09/07/2020 15:47

I’ve taken my two children, I didn’t have the heart to tie them up outside the shop 😁

Waxonwaxoff0 · 09/07/2020 15:50

I've been taking mine to the shops since lockdown began. No choice as I'm a single parent. No one cares.

Imagine the sad faces they would make at passers by.

Our village has a team of volunteers keen to deliver prescriptions , groceries etc to anyone in the village. There are considerably more volunteers than people wanting help.

Your local pharmacy my have something similar set up. I'm sure the DC would be much happier playing than in a shop. Why wouldn't they ?

Yorkshirepudding1987 · 09/07/2020 17:35

Been taking my toddler throughout. Noone cares, why would they and frankly if anyone did have anything to say i wouldn't give a toss anyway.

Theres always been kids in our local sainsburys.

Flynn999 · 09/07/2020 18:13

Our pharmacy has a one in one out policy, so providing the youngest is in the pushchair you will be fine. I would think most pharmacies have a similar policy due to shop size etc.

I’ve taken 3 year old into Tesco once and just plonked him in the trolley. Couldn’t touch anything or run of. Supermarkets in our area seem fairly normal, families taking the kids in as usual, babies in pushchairs.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 09/07/2020 18:13

Yes taking my toddler out again- tbh I only stopped because the queues were painful. Now it’s fine and something to do!

goose1964 · 09/07/2020 18:17

Went shopping with DD and 3 year old. He sanitised his hands and didn't run around. No one batted an eyelid.

Social distancing shouldn't be a 'thing of the past'. People should still be distancing in shops.
ginsparkles · 09/07/2020 18:50

I try not to take mine. We have been a couple of times but it's strange shopping at the moment so I don't like taking her.

soundsystem · 09/07/2020 18:53

Shopping seems more normal now where I am. Most people wearing masks and observing social distancing, but no queues to get in and no-one fighting over toilet roll! I've taken my kids: youngest in buggy and 5yo knows to walk next to me and not touch things!

Oysterbabe · 09/07/2020 18:58

I would take them in your situation.

Helenj1977 · 09/07/2020 19:34

@pooiepooie25 I went to Tesco yesterday, it was busy and no one SD. Some have removed arrows and 2 metre stickers. I wear a mask when I shop. Its is like normal again and actually quite scary.

Shops have updates their rules on shopping. You can shop with children if you have to. Some are still saying only one adult.

BogRollBOGOF · 09/07/2020 19:48

Mine have been to a few shops (7&9)
Went to town with DS1 yesterday. We enjoyed McDonalds, a museum, browsing (and buying)in Waterstones and a cafe.

Anyone that objects to the presence of childen needs to get a life. We were all children once. Most of my disposable money spent in the last 4 weeks has been on the children. DH might appear to be the one in the household contributing to the economy, but he doesn't need much and doesn't grow!

Mumtumwobble · 09/07/2020 20:47

I’ve taken mine a few times recently when I’ve needed to. They’ve stayed close by and were well-behaved. No one seemed to care. Can’t see why it’s a problem so long as they’re not running around everywhere.

Thisdressneedspockets · 09/07/2020 22:47

I've taken mine. They take my mind off the weirdness, although I end up spending twice as much.

I agree with you. It's scary. We are heading for more outbreaks.
