What's the cough like? Should I get a test.

Apologies for this. Can anyone who has had or knows someone who's had, CV , please tell me about the cough?

Ds1 has started coughing this week. He's prone to a slight cough, bit of hayfever, sticky throat type thing.

The last couple of days the cough is there all day, but not when eating, or watching tv, or reading. Then, he has been making a I'm noise. Its like a habit/tic. I honestly believe that the cough is part of the tic. Its a throat clearing type single mild cough. But often. He can stop it too if I ask him and it doesn't build up and explode out iyswim.

Should I be getting him a test? No other symptoms and well.

It is so easy to get a test that I would do it just in case. You can register online and turn up the same day. Then results back in 1-2 days. Just do it.

Why is the country bothering?
How much clearer does the message that you order a test as soon as you develop and new persistent cough, high temperature, or changes in your sense of smell and or taste, need to be before people actually begin to listen to it. As you don't seem to understand that part of the message I wonder if your entire household has been self isolating for the past few days as you should have been?

@StatisticalSense it's not a new cough, it's a cough that hes prone to. Not sure if you missed that part. Are you able to answer the question in my OP or did you just come to be exasperated?

I'd say get a test to be on the safe side.
Book it quick and you may get in tomorrow.
I think they are time sensitive?

I agree to booking a test.

It’s a constant cough that doesn’t ease up anytime

Get a test delivered to your house. The point is if you have symptoms but aren't sure that it will confirm either way, even though he is prone to coughs, it's important.

My DS gets this throat clearing cough - it's asthma, in his case (though it manifests more often as the classic asthma honky cough now).

Just get a test anyway, to rule it out (inasmuch as any test with 30% false negative rules it out!). If he's negative and it continues, I'd strongly recommend exploring the asthma possibility - you can always ask the GP to try and inhaler and spacer just to see if they do the trick.

ImFree2doasiwant · 09/07/2020 17:09

@JeanMichelBisquiat I will look into that, thanks. I'm prone to chest coughs and a throat clearing sort too, and he does seem to take after me in that respect, but it wont hurt to rule it out.

I noticed he's prone to hayfever, so unfortunately that may mean he also.develops other atopic stuff. Sorry to be the bearer of potentially bad news!

But yes, test just in case Smile

Inkpaperstars · 09/07/2020 20:07

Well, it kind of is a new cough if his coughing has changed in nature or frequency. So definitely test. There are cases with the type of cough you describe.

The type of cough you could have with Covid varies so hugely, that any new cough should prompt a test.

ImFree2doasiwant · 09/07/2020 21:21

@Inkpaperstars thank you, thats really what i wanted to know. All ive read ofls a dry cough, resulting in shortness of breath it's certainly not that.

My 4 year old has had a very occasional, throat clearing cough today. When he got undressed for bath I noticed he has a viral rash. I am ordering a test just incase but seems very unlikely. His cheeks are flushed but he doesn't have a temp and he hasn't stopped asking for snacks all day as usual. I would say get a test just incase

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/07/2020 23:28

I am (sorry) really mucus-y with hayfever this year which is making me cough. The Zoe app told me to get a test. I did, it was negative. Masks are mandatory here (Scotland) from tomorrow but I have been wearing them every time I am in a shop for weeks just in case I cough. (Wearing the mask really makes my nose run for some reason.)
