Can we expect wrap around care at school from September?

My DC’s primary hasn’t offered it yet but I’m wondering whether they will? Anyone else’s primary school given any advice as to whether it will be available? Going to make work tricky without it!

@Cupcakegirl13

Ours is offering it as usual , the guidance explicitly says bubbles do not apply in that instance so there’s no reason it can’t go ahead as usual .
I've missed that bit of guidance. So everything that's been arranged for bubbles/pods for September to keep year groups or even individual classes separate from each other is just a total waste of time if they're going to be mixing up classes and year groups within wraparound care - which they will have to, they won't be able to staff separate before and after school groups for each class/yeargroup. I'm actually quite pleased I've already had Covid, otherwise I would be very anxious about going to work in school come September. All the advice now is just about what's expedient, not what's medically safe/safer.

The guidance doesn't actually say that although you are allowed to form new bubbles in out of school provision but the advice is children shouldn't be attending too many settings. How you police that I don't know, especially if other activities start up again such as sports etc. Groups must be kept to 15 children Mac.

All pens and resources etc are cleaned between use and not shared by children. They are to social distance where possible. Equipment is to be regularly cleaned. Lots of hand washing.

A tricky thing to manage. Especially if someone then tests positive.

It certainly won't be after school club as people know it.

Out us only opening until 4.30.

Breakfast club there's no breakfast and they must sit at designated tables.

This is a really interesting thread! Ours has been running since schools "closed" in March. Its so interesting how different schools have interpreted the rules. If schools are open wrap around care should be open!

MichonnesBBF · 12/07/2020 15:53

My school is running breakfast club for keyworker children only.

No afterschool clubs at all.

Letseatgrandma · 12/07/2020 15:56

If schools are open wrap around care should be open!

Not necessarily.

Each school’s circumstances are different.

VelvetSoft · 12/07/2020 16:00

Ours is but hours are reduced. They normally include breakfast and a snack after school but that has been dropped.

ClimbDad · 12/07/2020 16:02

Some people in the UK are suffering a mass delusion. It is foolish to assume schools will be able to open safely, let alone offer wrap around care.

Transmission in schools is well established. Public Health England is linking an average of 8 to 11 outbreaks to schools per day. This is during a period in which schools have reduced attendance and are using social distancing measures.

If the government is sufficiently reckless to open schools as normal in September, they will be closed by the middle of October.

Ours has said it is hoping to but it won’t be full hours from September.

The guidance doesn’t say bubbles don’t matter in wraparound - it says children should be in their class bubbles if possible, and if not they should be in a small consistent group. I think some schools will look at smaller numbers and full time only to facilitate that, but some aren’t going to have the staffing available.

lazylockdowner · 30/07/2020 21:17

Ours will be opening as normal, very small school hall (tiny village church school)
20 kids for breakfast club and anything between 8 and 15 for after school which I work at

Our head has no issues with bubbles mixing, because according to her we are a small school (110) so it's fine 🤷‍♀️

DeltaFlyer · 30/07/2020 21:25

I run an after school club at a small village school. 60 kids total.
I haven't yet been told if it's running. they are waiting to see if there's any demand. If not enough demand it will not run and I'll remain on furlough as long as I can then it will be redundancy. Afterschool clubs can be hard to recruit for so it's possible that my school won't have another one. It took them a year of advertising before I applied as no one wanted it.
So if you want a place at one do tell your school before waiting to see what happens as your interest may help.

Illusionordelusion · 30/07/2020 21:53

Our school has cancelled wraparound.

I rely on it.

Systemrelevant · 30/07/2020 22:01

No wraparound and closing at 1pm each Friday.

It's going to be difficult for a lot of families come September it seems,
I am employed directly by the school but I know of other providers that operate on school site and just rent the space..wonder how it will work for them?
