Govt ad/facemasks

Feeling disappointed seeing Govt ad about enjoying summer with a distinct lack of facemasks. Judt wondering if others think this is off.

No, not really.

onedayinthefuture · 09/07/2020 09:34

Not at all, I don't want to be breathing in my own carbon dioxide all day.

ragged · 09/07/2020 09:59

I'm going for a run in a moment. On quiet countryside paths.
My dad wears a mask all the time he's outside house, not in car with wife. He's a true believer that it's protective and selfish not to wear one. He also pulls it down a lot, says it interferes with his breathing, at least when he's on his daily exercise ( as brisk a walk as he can manage).

If my dad can't walk briskly with one on, I don't think I could run with one on.
I sure hope govt doesn't make it mandatory to wear them to step outside the door, or go jogging. Daily exercise is pretty important in my life. I hate staying home all day. In summer I love being outside, especially cycling. Maybe face covers work with very slow bike rides? Would have to walk up hills I imagine. I guess I could get a rowing machine but no idea where I would put it.

I don't see the point while socially distanced outside.
I would in public transport, in shops etc.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 09/07/2020 10:27

It's not necessary to wear them while socially distanced outside.

Redolent · 09/07/2020 10:32

You don’t have to wear them outside. But Sunak doesn’t think you have to wear them inside either (see his cringeworthy Wagamama stunt today).

purpleme12 · 09/07/2020 10:41

I don't know what as but no I don't think it's off

Northernsoulgirl45 · 09/07/2020 11:00

Most of it was inside though. Coffee shops, hair dressers and clothing shops. Someone outside was wearing one!

Of course it's 'off'. I thought exactly the same watching Sunak delivering food to those customers. It was less than 1 metre. It was indoors.

Yes, he should have been wearing a mask, to set an example.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 09/07/2020 11:05

Unless you wear a face shield, you are only protecting others from catching your germs. If you have the rona, you should stay inside. It can get in through your eyes, face masks don't protect fully and are more of a placebo in terms of protection. I do have one (I made it at home) to wear for medical appointments, but by making it snug enough to fit my face well, it is also stuffy and uncomfortable to wear for long due to the heat it traps.

Orangeblossom78 · 09/07/2020 11:07

I think the rules here say we only have to wear them on public transport, or guidance on wearing them on small shops where it is difficult to socially distance. (in England)

Maybe once again example of people making up their own rules and imposing them on others.

Northernsoulgirl45 · 09/07/2020 11:07

Ok so hjust watched it again. They showed a few mask wearers at the start but not at the hairdressers or cinema which seems especially wrong.
I am not advocating wearing masks outside and I don't but close contact at the hairdressers with no mask is daft.

OP posts:
Orangeblossom78 · 09/07/2020 11:08

and I have seen the picture - it is not less than 1m at all. The nearest people are several tables back in the background of the pic

crosseyedMary · 09/07/2020 11:11

If you have the Rona you should stay inside
If the rona was only spread by those with obvious active infections things would be more straightforward
But we have asymptomatic spreaders and pre-symptomatic spreaders☹️

crosseyedMary · 09/07/2020 11:15

How should we interpret Sunak's lack of a mask whilst serving food in Wagamama?
how can he possibly fail to realise that he ought to set the right example and wear a mask?
why did an advisor not tell him?
I don't understand🤷‍♀️ how can the government be so dumb, is it deliberate?

Northernsoulgirl45 · 09/07/2020 11:16

I thought it would be essential at the hairdressers as no social distancing there

OP posts:
Northernsoulgirl45 · 09/07/2020 11:20

Wow just read the guidelines and customers don't need to wear masks in hairdressers. That surprised me.

OP posts:
Orangeblossom78 · 09/07/2020 12:33

That is correct, we have a hairdressers nearby and the staff either wear a visor or mask but the customers don't.

Orangeblossom78 · 09/07/2020 12:34

In the cafe here the staff were not wearing masks, maybe they don't have to (or can if they want to perhaps)
