Travel England v Wales

Can anyone explain to me why camp sites with shared facilities, are open for business in England but not in Wales? I get that Wales have their own leader, who is entitled to make different decisions to BJ, however Wales is so much smaller than England ie has less people and far less cases of Covid. I’ll be honest, and admit this is coming from a place of frustration and maybe me being a bit selfish, but let’s face it, 2020 has been a shocking year, and the one thing i hoping for and hanging on to by a thread, was taking my family on holiday to Wales. We go camping every year and meet up with family who live in Swansea, who we only see 2-3 times a year max. I don’t mind making sacrifices, and believe me, just like the rest of the country, I have, but if England is open for business when it comes to holidays then surely Wales should follow suit.

You've answered your own question OP. Wales has less people and less cases of Covid, so they don't want the hordes flooding in from worse-affected England, particularly in rural areas where a wave could cripple their limited medical facilities. Lots of nice places to camp in England though!

Go camping in England instead?

I agree. Because people living in Wales can easily go to England and use shared facilities anyway, then come home and potentially infect anyway. I am welsh but live in England. I will be visiting my family and their caravan over the summer but will have to use their caravan toilet.

Can the Swansea family meet you in England to camp instead? Variety is nice anyway.

Wales is smaller than England and has less cases overall, but currently has a higher new infection rate (number of new daily cases per hundred thousand) in parts of the country than most of England, where there are pockets of high infection but generally low transmission. They'll probably change the guidance on coming weeks once their infection rates (hopefully) go down, I think the Welsh government are just doing their best.

Things are slowly opening in Wales. I've booked an airbnb in Swansea for next week so that I can see my family at a social distance. We've also booked a restaurant outside for one evening.

Looking at the ZOE app, the numbers per million in Wales are not lower than those in England. However, the absolute figures are lower because there is a smaller population.

Infection rates are high along the Welsh coastal areas, so caution is a good thing right now.

The Welsh Government have decided that it is safer to open accomadation that have their own facilities - sharing toilets etc would increase risk. Also cafes, pubs etc are not open to eat out so camping would not be easy.
