Starting Reception 2020

Is there likely to be any keyworker provision for reception children come September? We've been told that the normal settling in period will be extended to over five weeks because of the virus. We really can't abandon our own jobs to run DS up to school for a couple of hours here and there for five weeks.

I realise some schools work like this even without the virus but in normal circumstances we would have had the support of grandparents/friends. Unfortunately, having lost one grandparent already to the virus we're just not willing to take any risks.

Is anyone else in the same boat or can give any advice?

Yep my little one starts reception in September and doesn’t start full time until 21st

Lots of mornings only

Thankfully I’m still furloughed- fingers crossed I still will be otherwise we are stuffed

Have not heard what is exactly going to happen at my dd school.
Normally its 2 weeks, first few days until lunch and then lunch and then full time.
They are phoning next week so I can speak to her teacher so I guess I will find out then.
My dd hasn't been at nursery since March (before lockdown and schools shutting because she had symptoms).
Very apprehensive about her starting not so much the virus but the fact it will have been over half a year since she has been apart from me.
But I can see it will be difficult for a lot of parents if they have delays in taking them on full-time

My son will be doing 3 half days In September then straight into full days. I’m hoping my husband will still be jerking from home. We are going into school next week for a look around and to meet his teacher in a very small, socially distanced groups which I think is lovely - the school has been great.

Unless things deteriorate during the holidays, our school aren't planning any keyworker provision. Depending on group the children are in, the settling in period is 3-5 weeks, so parents have to take time off, have unpaid leave

Dc2 starts reception in September. Settling in days will be the Thursday & Friday for the morning. Then full days from the following week. There is no planned key worker provision unless guidelines change.

No our schools have advised all keyworker provision ends at start of summer holidays and will not be re starting, as normal childcare ( childminders, after school clubs etc) will then be available then.

We haven’t had anything to this effect but it’s a private school so they’ve been very keen to get back to normal ASAP.

Camomila · 09/07/2020 06:32

Our new school have said they'll try their best to have everything as normal and have sent the info for breakfast and afterschool club too.
In fact we've even been invited for a quick "meet your new teachers" thing too this week. Feel very lucky!
