Why can't playgrounds in pubs open?

Just this really. We love going to outdoor pubs with our kids but none of the play areas are open - is this the same throughout the country? Do u think they will open at all this summer?

I drove past one in Gloucestershire on Sunday and there were lots of kids playing in it so must just be down to the pub's choice.

I think the pubs have enough to worry about without having to clean play areas too. They are supposed to be keeping people as separate as possible and only getting up from the table to go to the toilet. I suspect getting up and down to deal with kids on play equipment would constitute unnecessary mixing.

Because pubs reopening helps the economy and playgrounds don’t

Hugglespuffed · 08/07/2020 12:49

@Blue1316 I agree things are only focusing on the economy but this isn't true in this case. I know pubs which are open with their playgrounds too. Maybe pubs need more time to adjust to how things are to be for the time being before adding to the risk of playgrounds (and all that extra cleaning!)

Our local pub has a playground that is being well used by children, but perhaps it's the same pub as Hugglespuffed, as I'm in Gloucestershire too.

They are allowed to. They are supposed to still encourage SD and clean regularly, so some pubs may be waiting to figure out how that might work going forward. But they are perfectly legally allowed to open them.

@Blue1316 I would say though that playgrounds within pubs form part of a decision by a customer to go to the pub, albeit depending on their target audience etc

I can see why some pubs have decided not to open their's yet as they've already got a lot of adaptations to make, but lots are open as pps have said and they are allowed to be if pub wants to

BlueBrian · 08/07/2020 14:12

Probably just too much hassle, coping with the adults in the pub is probably bad enough without worrying about what a bunch of screaming kids are doing in the playground.

They can outside, up to management
