I found this terrifying tbh

Has anyone else heard of this?

It's right that we can be aware it happens but it is such a rare complication that worrying about it is totally pointless.

Flu kills many people and in some has lasting complications, most of us don't but it makes sense to be careful around flu and be aware of the risks even though they are rare.

It is right that we are aware being in a car can lead to a crash which can kill us - so most of us stick more or less to speed limits, wear seatbelts and watch out for other traffic. We don't refuse to go in a car.

We are aware electricity can cause fires and burns so most of us are careful around electricity and check when we plug things in that the flex is not damaged. Still there are many electrical fires a year that cause death. We need to be aware and careful. We don't need to live our lives in fear.

40 adult patients described with ADEM in 2001.

Doesn't seem that novel, has happened from other infections.

I’ve already posted on another thread about this, but I will again on here.

About 15 years ago my brother had ADEM when he was about 14. It developed from an innocent viral infection - a cough and sore throat. He was in a coma and had to learn to walk and talk again...it is extremely rare, but is not just linked to Covid. This can happen with any viral illness as it did with my brother.
