You no longer need to quarantine on return. And I've found travel insurance that includes COVID cover.
We'll be driving there and going via Eurotunnel
I've been in frontline nhs worker hell, DH has been in WFH whilst homeschooling two kids-hell. We REALLY want a holiday.

But I'm still not sure it's the right thing to do Confused

I think if France is okay with it (and their numbers are lower than ours) then it's ok.

I didn't feel right about booking a holiday abroad. But I am going away twice in the UK this summer which is no different really so I don't know why I felt funny about abroad.

I think it sounds great. Please go and enjoy time with your family

We are, last week of Aug. Booked before lockdown. Planned to drive but Eurotunnel / ferry very expensive now so flying and after getting on each others nerves for 4 months of lockdown, 12+ hours of driving each way lost its appeal. Its a small camp site anyway, has been in touch to say its fully open, operating as normal.

fortmums · 08/07/2020 10:34

@mcpickle what Travel Insurance did you find, please, which covers covid?

ifonly4 · 08/07/2020 10:39

If it's booked, go. Goes without saying social distance, follow local guidelines and be extra careful if using campsite toilets/showers (we're going to take dettol spray, try and use furthest unoccupied toilets, use sanitizer after leaving shower block. After everything we've been through those that can get away should make the most of it.

ohthegoats · 08/07/2020 10:40

No, not mad. We're going to go and stay with relatives in the UK for the first week of the holidays, then two weeks in Cornwall at the end. I don't like camping with children, so won't be camping, but am still open for options on France at some point.

BighouseLittlemouse · 08/07/2020 11:16

@fortmums trailfinders now covers COViD ( both medical and cancellation due to covid, the latter being the but most aren’t covering). It is more expensive as a result though

Ginfordinner · 08/07/2020 11:33

I think my main concern is if there are sudden lockdowns similar to what has happened in Leicester and parts of Spain. I would also be worried that, with the UK's high death toll, that some of the locals might view any British person with suspicion.

I'm not paranoid really Grin

fortmums · 08/07/2020 13:41

@bighouse Fantastic !!! i like trailfinders anyway. thanks.

I’m a bit confused about travel to France - the current advice is that U.K. arrivals to France have to self-isolate for 14 days which isn’t compatible with having a holiday unless you were staying with family I suppose. Is there a date set for that quarantine measure to be lifted for people coming from the U.K.

AriettyHomily · 10/07/2020 08:41

The quarantine in France is 'optional'.

We are not going to our mobile home this summer because the facilities on our site have been seriously limited, only 20 people in the pool complex at a time in 2 hour bootable slots for example. It's just won't be the same for the kids so we've taken the decision not to go.

If it wasn't for the kids we would go and just relax down there.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 10/07/2020 09:45

I'd go on holiday to France but not camping. It's the shared facilities that would bother me, they can't clean every loo or shower between use.

Some Eurocamps have chalets or cheap apartments with bathrooms, if I was going on holiday in the next few months I'd definitely want my own bathroom.
