Positive test and loss of smell and taste

I first felt unwell last Wednesday, just generally achy and tired then a very slight cough. I lost my sense of smell entirely on Friday so ordered a test which came back positive on Sunday.

I have absolutely no sense of smell and can’t taste anything Sad I could sit in bleach and not smell it at all. My other symptoms (Sore throat and bad cough) seem to be easing somewhat , I still have a dry cough but my senses show no signs of returning.

I’m really struggling!! DP also has Covid-19 but he has not lost his sense of smell/taste so he can’t understand why I’m so miserable.
I just wondered how long your sense of smell took to return or if it never has? I don’t think I can cope if it doesn’t return, I’m autistic and finding this symptom particularly hard to cope with. I know I’m lucky that we haven’t needed medical attention so far but I’m really struggling, I’ve been sat in tears today all morning.

My sense of smell went off like a light switch (beginning of April) one minute the smell of my hand cream was annoying me, the next ... poof!! Gone. It only lasted 48hrs (although I was actually quite unwell for weeks) my sense of tase has only just come back properly though, coffee tastes vile until a week ago

Sorry you're feeling upset about the loss of smell Thanks. I had covid from end of March, smell and taste disappeared completely for probably about ten days then came back slightly off (eg fruit ice lolly just tasted like sugar) for another week or so then back to normal.

Unfortunately yesterday and today I am smelling burning/stale cigarette smell which is definitely not real. It's at home and at work and from waking to sleep. NHS website says likely sinus (or covid as 'change of smell'!) but I have seen on two covid long haul groups people saying this is a post covid thing.

I will use a saline spray or something to rinse my sinuses and hope it's just temporary! I hope yours is back to normal again soon.

Just to update in case anyone reads this thread and has the same issue, I began to smell certain things again yesterday and it has improved further today. It’s definitely not as strong as normal and I still have a long way to go but it’s a start Smile
I found that smelling different essential oils and eating garlic helped me. My taste is still way off, I can only tell if something is sweet/salty etc but not much flavour. I am hopeful that I’ll improve further and it will return.

Mine came back quickly but months on I still feel bunged up and more prone to headaches.
