School PODs mixing

Can I get some views about pods in primary school. I have 2ds, both in primary. They’ve been invited back into school for the last couple of weeks and will be placed in pods of 15. School guidance states that once they’re in a pod, they stay in the pod, can’t mix, change staffing etc. The confusion comes in with the keyworker pod. Children from that pod are being placed into their year group pods, so kids from that pod will then be in with kids from all the other pods. Surely this increases any risk of spread and makes the whole system pointless? Any thoughts??

Send your kids back & let them see their friends. Bubbles just don’t work. It’s too complicated. Everyone of the kids in your kids bubble could have siblings in other bubbles. They could also be socialising with other kids out of school if their parents let them. They could have teachers as parents interacting with all their bubble. And on & on.

If you are going to send your kid back, you have to accept the risk & the reality of socialising. Thankfully kids are largely OK. But obviously can spread it.. so it depends how you feel. My kids been back at nursery since June & they can’t easily do bubbles there. Kids all attend on different days so are mixing with various different children on different days!

I have heard tonight that scouting has been given the go ahead to return in groups of 15 outside only, as this involves different age groups and even within age groups different school bubbles the whole thing will soon start being a farce.

So do away with pods altogether?

I get that it’s a logistical nightmare, and you can’t know what’s happening outside of school, but surely if school is implementing a system then they should at least try to stick to their own policy?

Interesting about scouts. I’m a beaver leader and hadn’t heard that

I agree op. They arent supposed to mix.
Our school are doing this too.
2 days at end of term.
So kw children can join the bubble and where has the teacher been teaching etc.
So for our 15? Or 30 kids there will be links from the previous week or 2 to possibly 3 or more other bubbles of 15.
We arent sending dd.
But i dont think it will be safe in sept either
As
again they are sending back kids to be with previous teacher for a few days
-anyone could havegot off a plane xhrs beforehand

  • could have been anywhere in the uk too
  • bubbles will be 30
  • as pp said siblings in different bubbles
  • before/after clubs running
  • siblings at secondary/CM/preschool
  • some schools are bubbling more than 1 class together

And yet they what to send shielded kids/kids of shielded/vulnerable/living with elderly parents in.
The only thing being done is no assembly
They can have visitors etc etc
This will not end well.
I think it's fine for people at low risk. But a bit of hand washing isnt really doing anything for higher risk people

It's an illusion of doing something.
I think the gov have worked out the calcs on r and as it takes 2w for changes to take effect they know it will likely go down by xyz so can relax certain things. Nursery said they can go back to normal numbers of kids. That will be because in 2w the schools will have broken up and some private ones already.
Same with playgrounds and pubs it's balanced on the schools

Our school are doing this too. Key worker kids across 3 bubbles throughout week. It bugs me only because I feel they might as well have had a class bubble of 30 and had the kids in all week rather than 2 days a week. I am very bitter about the loss of education time and think we will come to regret it.
