Does anyone miss the daily briefing?

I feel so out of the loop these days.

I miss hearing about the daily death rates because no matter how much time I spend looking for the information on the internet, I have never been able to find it.

I try to catch the news every day to hear what’s going on but between going to work and dealing with the children I can’t keep up to date. We used to joke that 5pm was always “mommy’s time” where I would shut myself away from the household so I could watch the briefing and see how things were unravelling and progressing. I used to like listening to the different ministers to see what changes they were putting in place to try and improve things but now I have little idea as to who is doing what.

Has Boris even been seen since he put an end to the briefings? It just seems like he’s washed his hands if it all. Even a weekly briefing would have been nice.....mind you, maybe there is one and I just don’t know about it??

Anyone else feeling the same or are you all glad to see the back of the briefings and the repetitive questions?

I think we need then because people are acting crazy

They need to look at facts

352 people got the infection today (inc asymtpomatic - not all even ill)

Yet there’s 66 million people in UK

People are losing their minds honestly! You have to be exposed to get it and hardly anyone has it and people walking round like everyone has the lurgy!

I like Professor Van Tam best but he hadn't been on for a while...

They should probably do one or two a week but not every day, we did get two briefings last week though

Topseyt · 06/07/2020 22:39

I think that "missing" them is rather an unusual way of putting it. Smile

I found that they served a purpose in the early days of lockdown, but beyond about the first couple of weeks I stopped watching them.

I don't think they are needed every day anymore. Once a week would be perfectly sufficient. They had become about as interesting as watching paint dry.

There was a time when patsy v and the whittster were the highlight of the day - we all have to move on though and get on with living.

I was watching the last one with Whitty and I got to wondering what he would be like on I’m a celebrity. I think he would rock. JVT would be Ace too.

We need I’m an expert get me out of here. They have got experience from the daily briefing and weekly rounds of how to make the Pm sound coherent.

Got irritated by NS very early on.

How do you know when they are on?

CrunchyCarrot · 07/07/2020 10:49

Nope. After listening daily for a couple of weeks I got bored and no longer bothered.

DilloDaf · 07/07/2020 11:56

How do you know when they are on?

Unless you're constantly checking the BBC you won't know.
They seem to just pop up without warning. Last Friday's was to rally us all for pub and restaurant openings and tell us to stay alert etc.
It would make more sense to have them regularly every week but perhaps this doesn't suit the govt's agenda.

If you add the number on the photo there is an official government WhatsApp. Data normally released around 4pm, just send "1". And gives links to other things. It has also sent messages about new info such as masks on public transport.

Forgot the photo.

Stopped watching after a couple of weeks.

SophieB100 · 07/07/2020 16:17

I miss Jonathan Van Tam
His, "I'm happy to answer your question. The rules apply to everyone and that's all I have to say on the matter" was a gem. Only surpassed by the look of frozen horror on Shapps face, who only rocked up to bang on about electric scooters.

BogRollBOGOF · 07/07/2020 16:51

A weekly review showing the trends of that week would be useful.

Daily is not necessary at a stage where the daily data is so low that normal fluctuations can be misinterpreted as major percentage differences.

There is also so terrible media spin on the information conflating random occurences.

Daily figures available from the daily whatsapp message as linked above
