Are you still going out?

Is everyone still going out to shops etc?

Currently 35 weeks and I'm desperate to get the few last bits in before baby arrives but I'm not too sure whether to risk going shopping or not? I know places in the shopping centre that are open have excellent social distancing rules, and my nan (who is also high risk) has said she would come with me& we would both wear masks but I'm still so anxious about leaving the house to go shopping!

What are everyone's thoughts about doing so when you're so close to your due date? Would it be stupid of me to go or am i overreacting?

All shops have SD measures in place on the whole people are adhering to them. Many have sanitizer on the door and some customers and staff have face masks on.. of course you could order what you need online but getting out in the fresh air and change of scenery might do you good.

Why would bringing your aunt help you?

Aramox · 05/07/2020 13:55

Where does nan mean aunt?

MRex · 05/07/2020 14:01

What area do you live in? Cases are extremely low in some areas, a bit higher in others. At 35 weeks you don't want to risk a fever, so it depends how low the risk is in your area.

Goingdownto · 05/07/2020 14:06

Aramox does that make it better? Hmm clearly I misremembered. The point being, does two vulnerable people going shopping make it any better than one person? I would not want an older relative to risk themselves to make me feel more comfortable.

watermelonsugar99 · 05/07/2020 14:10

@Goingdownto my nan not my aunt. And because she's been going out for about 2 weeks now, so she offered to come with me as I'm very anxious about going out. She's basically like a mam to me, I lived with her and my grandad for 8 years before moving out with my fiancé so she's like a comfort blanket to me when I'm feeling anxious. If she was still isolating I would have said no to her as I don't want to put her at risk but she's already been going out to shops.

Sorry I should have explained that in the post as I knew there'd be someone commenting on it.

@MRex Hi, I live in the Sunderland area. There's been no COVID related deaths for the past 14 days now and we are currently a lot lower on the list of areas that are at risk than we previously have been. At one point in lockdown we were one of the highest areas in the U.K.

Hi, its up to you really. Im 29 weeks now. I have been going to a few shops. I find times when I know there will be fewer customers. As someone said before most shops are good with social distancing and hand sanitisers. Things are busy obviously on the weekend so I go during the week.
I've been in doors for so long now I will go mad if I can't pop to the shops occasionally.

Ginfilledcats · 05/07/2020 14:30

I personally wouldn't - not because I'm scared of the virus. But because pretty much all delivery suites are insisting on a temp check on admission, and if YOU or your partner have a raised temperature you can't have your partner for the birth. Given how close you are I wouldn't risk it for that alone.

If you can, shop online. However if you're desperate too and confident re the likelihood of getting any virus then do it

Good luck x

MRex · 05/07/2020 14:33

Very low cases, Sunderland is at 1.8/100,000. Yeah, I think it's really worth going out and enjoying yourself when you're in such a low risk area. These things can change, you don't want to regret not being out while you could do so safely.

watermelonsugar99 · 05/07/2020 14:42

@Ginfilledcats hey! I know exactly what you mean, unfortunately in my area everywhere is sold out of sizes and have been for weeks now so shopping online is a no go otherwise I would have just done that.

As someone has just said, I'm in a low risk area so whilst we're still at that point I'm just going have to risk going once and then continue isolating up until I have my baby! Thank you for replying:)

@Cherryhill22 I know exactly how you feel, I feel demented constantly being stuck in the house and not being able to see people/go out shopping! It'll be nice to go out once to get final bits in.

@MRex I think that's the lowest it's ever been here, a very big improvement to the other month! It makes me feel a lot better knowing that I'm in a low-risk area especially when social distancing measures are very well done in clothing shops here too! Definitely going to just risk it and go once as like you said things can change very quickly
