If you live with someone who's shielding and your job isn't essential?

gotothecooler · 05/07/2020 10:33

You have always been able to go to work?

Mrsjayy · 05/07/2020 10:34

Yes you can go to work depending on your job obviously.

dementedpixie · 05/07/2020 10:35

I'm sure you've always been able to. You are supposed to socially distance from the shielding person though

Mascotte · 05/07/2020 10:35

You've always been able to go to work.

Woodlandtree · 05/07/2020 10:37

Only the shielded person needed to shield not the household so yes you could go back to work.

FizzFan · 05/07/2020 10:38

Yes

thatselementary · 05/07/2020 10:43

That's fine but I can't distance from the shielding person.

gotothecooler · 05/07/2020 10:46

What's the deal OP? You don't want to go back to work? Fine. Claim UC or whatever. If not I don't see the problem. Thousands of people shielding live with people who work.

Mrsjayy · 05/07/2020 10:49

What is your job what if any is your employer saying ? I know people who live with sheilders and at work

thatselementary · 05/07/2020 10:51

Not exactly @gotothecooler Hmm I have no issue going back to work but I didn't know if I could if I was living with someone who's shielding that I can't distance from.

OP posts:
gotothecooler · 05/07/2020 10:55

You have always been able to.

thatselementary · 05/07/2020 10:56

@gotothecooler that's fine but I didn't know. I was just asking a question Confused

OP posts:
gotothecooler · 05/07/2020 10:56

And people have been answering 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mrsjayy · 05/07/2020 10:57

Why don't you look on scotgov. All the advice.iS on there.

thatselementary · 05/07/2020 11:01

@gotothecooler yes but your assumption that I don't want to and go on UC is ridiculous Biscuit

OP posts:
thatselementary · 05/07/2020 11:01

Thanks @Mrsjayy

OP posts:
gotothecooler · 05/07/2020 11:05

yes but your assumption that I don't want to and go on UC is ridiculous

Well people said yes you can work and you responded with 'but...' and have absolutely no context. It may be ridiculous in that yes you do want to go to work but without any real information it wasn't an unfair option to suggest.

I'm not sure why you seem to have a problem with being told you can, and have always been able to work, but that kind of attitude did bring me to think maybe you didn't want to.

Perhaps give more detail in order to get a perfectly tailored response.

dementedpixie · 05/07/2020 11:08

She will be worried about working and bringing something home to the shielded person. I'm assuming they share a bed which is about as far from social distancing that you can get. It's hard to try to do the right thing when you live with someone who is shielding. Is your job a high risk customer facing one? Can you wear a mask or visor to help stop transmission?

thatselementary · 05/07/2020 11:11

Exactly @dementedpixie, thank you. Yes it is and yes I can.

OP posts:
Mascotte · 05/07/2020 11:12

Masks don't protect the wearer.

Iggii · 05/07/2020 11:14

It does seem a bit mad for the shielding person to not be allowed into work or shops etc but to share possibly a small flat with someone who is working in a pub.

Iggii · 05/07/2020 11:14

The mask would protect the shielding partner though Hmm

Iggii · 05/07/2020 11:15

help protect I should say

dementedpixie · 05/07/2020 11:16

I'm sure they will to some extent especially if others are also wearing them. Visors would also help. If its a shop job then from next week it will be mandatory for customers to wear a face covering.

When you come home get washed and change your clothes too
