Not sure if this is the right place to post but I think so!

As I understand it, pubs and restaurants etc. can now open outdoors in Wales from 11th July. As can hotels, b&bs and other self contained accommodation. We intend to book for 15th July for 3 nights in Caernarfon. We spend our days at Valley plane spotting (geeeeeks!) but would want to go out to eat/drink outside in the evening. We are both on lots of plane spotting fb groups based in Wales and the feeling on these groups is very much that they don't want us there, "bringing the virus with us". I'm trying to gauge if this is the feeling amongst most Welsh people? If so, we will stay at home.

Thanks.

No, not at all, just the odd one on here being a bit silly. You can go more than 5 miles on Monday, so welcome in.

I won't lie, I have concerns about the influx of holidaymakers we are about to get and I will continue to try and keep my distance. We have been lucky not to have been badly affected in more western regions and understandably want to keep it that way. Our economy needs to start moving and so we do need the tourism industry to restart but I worry that people don't seem to care anymore. By all means come to Wales and enjoy a holiday, you sound sensible and I just hope others will be the same.

NotShiny · 04/07/2020 15:25

Having been across to England a few times, it's clear to me it's a whole different world in England, so much more "moved on" and people everywhere. Felt a bit backwards coming back into Wales.

HappyMealWithLegs · 04/07/2020 15:34

I personally feel the way we have gone about things in England is terrible. It all feels too soon for me. For us, we can wait and come another time because I'd rather the local people were happy about it. We've been coming to the same place for 20 years and it will still be there next year!

It's difficult to gauge. The pubs and restaurants we frequent are posting all over fb, come back, spend money! Yet others are saying stay away you infected wretches 😂

I don't think there will be much open in Caernarfon, the place is like a ghost town. I don't think you will be welcome on Anglesey at the moment.

Mamimawr · 04/07/2020 16:15

We accept the fact that tourists are going to come here in the next few weeks. I'm pleased that you understand that pubs / cafes etc won't be open for inside trade. I'm really afraid that lots of people coming to the area won't know that. I would be very dissapointed if I came here on holiday expecting everything to be open as usual.

Some places you can contact to see if they have spaces outside for food would be - Anglesey Arms, Menai Bridge
Black Boy, Caernarfon
Ouzo and Olives, Caernarfon are operating a takeaway service as are all of the Indian / Chinese resteraunts in the area

HappyMealWithLegs · 04/07/2020 16:21

I'm waiting for the Anglesey Arms to come back to me and tell me they've got tons of big table umbrellas on order!

Can't see how the Black Boy will open given that you have to walk through the pub to get outside. Unless they set up a one way in one way out system 🤔 We are going to leave it a few days and have a think Smile

I live near caernarfon in a very touristy village and I have to say I’m feeling really anxious about the sudden influx we are expecting. That doesn’t mean I don’t understand we need them and I certainly wouldn’t ever be rude to anyone, it just makes me anxious.

Having said that, I work in tourism on Anglesey and have started back in work and been told expressly not to start our social media back up as there is so much bad feeling.

HappyMealWithLegs · 04/07/2020 16:37

Are you expecting a lot of people? That's a genuine question and not meant to come over snarky! I read an article a couple of days ago and they had interviewed the landlord of a Caernarfon pub; he said that he thought Wales would have lost 1000s of visitors as people will have booked England and Scotland instead, as things opened sooner there plus you can go inside pubs etc.

I know quite a lot of people who have self catering cottages and they are filling up fast.

DBML · 04/07/2020 17:35

I’m in Wales. Come on over.

AlohaMolly · 04/07/2020 20:10

Just as a rough idea - we’ve got 20ish properties available for the summer and my boss told me we are fully booked.

I don’t think our tourism season is that far behind England in terms of opening, maybe a week or so?
