Playgrounds not reopening

The playgrounds in our town haven't reopened this weekend. I was wondering if any councils had gone ahead and opened them?

Our council said they needed more time to prepare. Not sure what preparations they mean. Gel dispensers? Closing off some equipment?

Anyone have any ideas?

I saw on another thread someone mentioned they worked for their local council and apparently they have to clean ‘touch points’ so I guess everything on a regular basis and the op mentioned that her council wouldn’t be opening parks due to this being unfeasible.

Non of our local parks opened yesterday and the signs hadn’t changed to suggest they will. Just says ‘temporarily closed’.

Oh that's interesting, thank you for replying.

From what ive seen in here and in other forums, it’s a mixed bag. Mine are opening today along with guidance around taking responsibility for using hand gel, SD, not taking too long on each thing to give others a chance etc

xolotltezcatlopoca · 04/07/2020 10:46

In the past threads, some people worked for council posted the reason they can't open was to do with safety of the equipment. It hasn't been checked for while. So they may mean preparation by checking everything is safe to use, as well as keeping safe from spreading virus?

Hugglespuffed · 04/07/2020 10:52

Mine are opening Monday. Only 1 adult can take their children in.

MRex · 04/07/2020 11:16

Our nearest big one was open this morning, DH and DS spent 1.5 delighted hours there. We're in outer London, so very low cases round here and the council can't justify keeping them closed. A lot more kids than usual for early Saturday morning apparently but not crazily busy, no queues, lots of friendly smiles and everyone behaving nicely. Hand gel after swings and on the way home. We have a very very happy little boy now. I hope all of yours open soon.

Beebityboo · 04/07/2020 11:26

Our aren't either Sad. I'm gutted as we are in a village with no car so it is really all the kids had to look forward to without using public transport.
Just hope they do next month if things continue to improve.

MRex · 04/07/2020 11:32

I wonder if it's worth any of you directly lobbying your local councils, asking what it will take for them to feel comfortable opening and pointing out the low incidence of spread from fomites?

ShellsAndSunrises · 04/07/2020 11:33

Ours reopened at 8am and according to Facebook, have now been closed due to high amounts of people attending; no possibility of social distancing and lack of resources to clean them frequently enough.

Our council has also been struggling with reopening toilets and emptying bins, too, so we might just be low on staff.

Squaffle · 04/07/2020 11:47

Ours have re-opened (London). Advice from council is to use hand sanitiser, wash hands when you get home, and ‘consider’ wearing a mask. We went for a play, it was pretty empty but the weather isn’t great and I think a lot of people have gone away for the weekend.

Silversun83 · 04/07/2020 11:58

Our village ones are opening on Monday and will be cleaned weekly. They've advised to bring own handgel.

HeadSpin5 · 04/07/2020 11:59

@ShellsAndSunrises that’s a pity. The guidance for ours asks parents to wipe the equipment down before and after rather than staff doing it

AnneLovesGilbert · 04/07/2020 12:00

Ours opened today. We’ve got horrible weather so doubt it’ll be that busy.

Reader1984 · 04/07/2020 12:00

All ours open, no restrictions, no issues. (Cambs)

89redballoons · 04/07/2020 12:01

Ours are opening on Monday. Only one adult per group of children allowed, and we are supposed to use hand sanitizer and stop using equipment or leave if it becomes too crowded for social distancing.

SandieCheeks · 04/07/2020 12:03

Ours are opening, the council have said they aren't going to clean them though they just do a health and safety check once a week. Parents are requested to take responsibility for cleaning equipment, sanitising hands and wearing masks/social distancing.

Sometimes it depends on who actually is responsible for the playground - if it's not the council but a parish council, village committee, residents association they might decide it's too risky or difficult to manage.

EnglishRose1320 · 04/07/2020 12:04

Ours are opening in stages, skate parks and multi use courts first. Then a few parks and then the rest to be announced once safety checks have been carried out. At the moment it's a really low risk area but it's a tourist spot so I imagine that is all about to change. We need tourists but I'm not sure how our council is going to safely manage larger numbers of people using these spaces.

minipie · 04/07/2020 12:04

Our council did a big announcement they were opening them and then didn't Confused

AstridAv · 04/07/2020 12:06

Some are and some aren't. My parnter works doing maintenance in playgrounds and his council have decided to remain closed but the one just over has decided to open. I think it's at the councils discretion and depends whether they're able to make the playgrounds cover secure.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 04/07/2020 12:06

Our council (Bristol) is opening playgrounds on Monday, similar 'rules' as @89redballoons

FrugiFan · 04/07/2020 12:08

All the ones in our council area are opening today. I know Hampshire and Wiltshire councila have opened all of theirs but some in West Berkshire have not.

moita · 04/07/2020 12:09

I'm in the Midlands and ours aren't but apparently the council are looking into opening them...I'm gutted! Was looking forward to taking m

lljkk · 04/07/2020 12:09

Lots of new Extra signs appeared in last few days here on the playgrounds "PLEASE DO NOT USE this equipment." DC could slobber & snot all over any other shared public space, fence, gate, recycling bin but playgrounds are apparently hospitable Mecca for intolerable germs.

Dadnotamum72 · 04/07/2020 12:09

Ours haven't opened it's a shambles like the toilets,
Some councils health and safety mad others just open up and bring your own sanitizets etc.

If tge government say open things up then thats what the councils should do!!!

SnowdropSurprise · 04/07/2020 12:15

Such a mixed bag from the posts on here.

Feel really disappointed as my children were so excited about them reopening.
