Face visors

Do these provide any better protection? Is there any studies into them yet?

Work in retail and been given the option to wear them but most of the time I'll be behind a plastic sneeze guard so feel ok.

I've got asthma and wearing a mask proves uncomfortable for my breathing (or at least the ones I've tried). Plus know these proof difficult for those that are hard of hearing to lip read etc.

How are others finding the visors to wear?

I'm a hairdresser and did my mums hair yesterday whilst wearing a visor. It's wasn't great. I felt a bit claustrophobic after about 10 minutes or so. But the guidance says we have to wear them. Visor protects both me and my client. So neither of us have to wear a mask.

I’m not sure that visor alone will protect anyone. Hairdressers get as close as dentists and dentists have to wear both mask and visor for simple examinations (for aerosol generating procedures we wear Star Wars gear). Masks are very expensive at the moment and in short supply, maybe your hairdresser is cutting corners to get started.
My hairdresser rang me to make an appointment and stated that I would have to wear a mask and that they would be wearing masks too. In addition to this I would have to fill in forms and lots of extra protocols have been introduced.

A visor isn't really an alternative to a mask. A mask stops you generating aerosols/small droplets that may infect someone else, and to some extent (depending on the mask) stops you breathing them in. The visor will to some extent double up that protection but is mostly there to stop any potential droplets getting in your eyes. Masks and visors should generally be used together.

The government guidance for hairdressers says just visors. I'm not saying that agree that a visor is enough just what the guidance says.

I saw a hairdresser wearing a visit on BBC Breakfast this morning. The way she was wearing it was ridiculous. It was well away from her face at the bottom so totally pointless.
