Trip to Scotland to see family

We live in England, fairly far south. Have close family in Scotland we would like to visit. Is this allowed/in the spirit of the rules after 10th July ? Is Scotland allowing overnight visitors?

They aren't allowing overnight visitors yet. Not allowed in the house yet except to use the toilet.

Nicetoolshed · 02/07/2020 23:22

No.

IKEA888 · 02/07/2020 23:24

in my part just over border travel further than 5 miles is not allowed
so sadly no

Messageinateacup · 02/07/2020 23:25

My understanding is it's 15th July for hotels, holiday cottages from 4th. Are you planning to stay with the family members, as that isn't currently allowed (ie you can't meet other households indoors yet)

HouchinBawbags · 02/07/2020 23:26

Nope. But my dad is coming to Scotland from England for respite for his wife. He's terminal and doesn't have long left at all so we can't delay even a month.
He's been isolating and we've been isolating to get ready for this. I've complied with all the lockdown rules so far since this all began but we're breaking them now.

hilbil21 · 02/07/2020 23:26

I'm in Scotland as of the 10th of July you can visit others in their house and the 5 mile restriction is away as of tomorrow. So I would say yes!

Messageinateacup · 02/07/2020 23:27

The five mile thing is stopping this week though, and it doesn't apply to visiting family. Not sure what restrictions in England (about driving) are. I think getting some accommodation close by would be wisest.

Messageinateacup · 02/07/2020 23:28

I didn't know that about the 10th that's good Smile

dementedpixie · 02/07/2020 23:31

You would still need to socially distance indoors even if by that date you are allowed to be inside the house. Can you not wait a bit longer?

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 02/07/2020 23:36

I think it’s from the 15th you can go inside someone’s house (other than if you have formed an “extended household” bubble). I don’t know if that includes overnight stays though.

redbigbananafeet · 02/07/2020 23:45

No and definitely no overnights!!!!!

Willow2017 · 03/07/2020 00:40

No

Why?

hilbil21 · 03/07/2020 06:52

@judystilldreamsofhorses she said the 15th originally in her briefing and then corrected herself later on in it as it is the 10th

Scottishgirl85 · 03/07/2020 06:55

We are in similar position. Not seen family since Christmas. From 10th July, 3 households can meet indoors and stay overnight. We are going end of July. Social distancing indoors is, in my opinion, utterly ridiculous.

Lockdowners · 03/07/2020 08:00

Ok great, thanks all! So we can go. Can anyone point me in the direction of the overnight rules? We do have somewhere we can stay that is not habited by anyone else but would prefer to stay with family.

Depends where too, Dumfries for example is staying at this lockdown level for another 2 weeks, so no overnight visits there.

Get your relatives to email their local msp and ask for clarification. They will get back to them pretty quickly

emmathedilemma · 03/07/2020 08:28

The Scottish government website is pretty clear but it doesn't clarify staying overnight from the 10th July.
