Pregnant teacher

I am a secondary school teacher and am currently 22 weeks pregnant. I have been working from home since April and haven't been put on the rota to go into school to teach children of key workers.
After hearing today's announcement I am curious as to what people will think will happen in September for me. I will be 30 weeks in the new academic year. If I have to work that is fine, I am just curious to see what others think - will my school allow me to work from home still? Thank you.

I’m in a similar position to you. I’m due the 19th September but don’t want to start Mat leave until the 18th. My head has said I won’t have a class but will be used for cover for those two weeks. This was back when I was about 19 weeks. I don’t know what will happen now.

If the schools are back then I can't see how you can work from home.

I do understand your concerns, but on the other hand we need to get schools back for the sake of the kids.

If I were you I would go on Mat Leave at 30 weeks.

@Timeforanotherusername yes true, unless there are a substantial number of students who are staying home due to them being extremely vulnerable. I don't want to start my maternity at 30 weeks as I am only taking 6 months off for financial reasons. If I do that I will be going back to work when my baby is 3 and a half months old!!

My DD will be back at school anyway so I don’t see the benefit of me not being at work. I really don’t want to start my leave any earlier than I need to. I want to maximise my time off.

@beingatwatitsabingthing that's the same with me. My daughter will be going in so definitely don't want to take early maternity if she is going in as the risk is still there!!

Especially not when you’d lose 10 weeks!

Pukeymama · 02/07/2020 22:06

What was today's announcement? Was it in regards to teaching or pregnancy? The last government guidelines I read (which I will admit was a while ago!) Said after 28 weeks should work from home. Has that changed?

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 02/07/2020 22:51

@Pukeymama

Shielding is due to end on the 1st August so I doubt that will still apply.
