PGL school trip refund

Hi, wondering if anyone is claiming a refund for a cancelled PGL school trip please (cancelled due to coronavirus)? If so, how easy is it? What proportion of the full cost did you manage to get a refund for? And how long was the claim process? DS' school trip with PGL was postponed from June to Oct, and now again to March 2021. The school says if anyone does not want to go anymore, the school could help us to claim a refund (minus deposit). The school has paid the full fee to PGL. I am considering whether to cancel, part of me is concerned about the possibility of PGL collapsing before March and then I will lose all the money, also unsure about how the virus situation would evolve. DS is not keen to go anymore due to various reasons including coronavirus. DH thinks we should just hang on and see what happens. Any sharing of experience would be appreciated, thank you very much!

I may be wrong but I think on one of the Martin Lewis shows he said ultimately with school trips the contract is with the school so if the holiday company do not refund the school legally should.

( this may be rubbish so dont take as gospal).

Our school do these trips as year 6, is this the case with you? Are year 6's still going to go when in year 7?

If he's year 5 I would hang on , a big life experience to lose out on.

Thank you very much, ds is in year 6 middle school so could still go in year 7. Thank you for mentioning about the legal responsibility of school, will look into that further.

PGL are ABTA bonded so the money paid should be protected if they did go under, but you could ask the school for further confirmation of this if you are concerned.

I am Chair at a primary school. Our year 6s were due to go to PGL but PGL cancelled the booking because of coronavirus and told us we would have to claim on our insurance. They were very difficult but did eventually back down for some of it and the claim is now in to the trust's insurers. A bit different to your situation though as it was a cancellation by them, not the school, but that makes their attitude even more appalling! To be honest I would stick with your booking.

Thank you very much, the info is useful. Yes, it does sound like it would be better to keep the booking and see how things evolve. If I were the one cancelling it, I would be less able to defend myself when it comes to claim dispute. Thank you very much again!

PGL are refunding us but not our deposits. School are claiming on their insurance to get the deposits back. PGL the rest.

I hope another school child doesn’t step foot in one of their centres. They have treated people disgracefully.

Not pgl, but my daughter’s school trip to Spain was cancelled by the school (the schools decision) a few months ago. The school did not get a full refund from the company, and they weren’t able to claim on the insurance either as it was supposedly going ahead. But we all got full refunds - the school paid the difference back to us out of their funds.

We’ve paid for PGL and a trip to Spain, so far we’re over £600 out of pocket. We’ve been told they are trying to re-schedule Spain and are loading with pgl about refunds.
