Lockdown and dog's booster jabs expiring (plus pet insurance)

We live near Leicester (not in the lockdown zone) and our dog's annual booster jabs are due next week. Our vets is in the lockdown zone and has said that because of this new lockdown, they've cancelled all boosters but can fit her in at the end of August (2 months after the 12 months jab date has passed). They say this is fine and not to worry. Does anyone know if this is actually a problem? I wondered about pet insurance, because our insurance runs out in a couple of week's time, and don't you usually have to tick to say that your dog's vaccinations are up to date? I wondered whether to take her to a different vet outside of the lockdown zone, can any vets pick up these boosters even if they've been done for a few years elsewhere? Thanks.

Ring your insurer

Some are prepared to waive some time clauses because of pandemic restrictions, so find out now. Chances are you'll be fine, but always best to get it noted

You'll be OK in terms of the actual vax (the vet wouldn't mislead you in that).

It’s fine... you’ve got 3 months from them being due before they’d be counted as not up to date.

Also yes, you can go to any vet for boosters, it’s not like the initial ones where they have to match.

Thank you @RoseAndRose - I will give them a call now. And thanks for the reassurance. I have a rigid idea in my head that at 12 months the jabs go from working to not working, even though I know that is not how things work!

And @tabulahrasa do you think that I will be OK taking out new insurance? That I can agree on the conditions section that her jabs are up to date? Maybe I need to phone the new policy people when that time comes (will add it to my list!). Thank you for replying.

I’d just tick it as up to date...

I will add, I don’t work for a vet or an insurance company, so there is the slight chance I’m wrong, but I do foster dogs that arrive with varying vaccination records and if it’s within 3 months of the annual date they get a booster and longer than 3 months they restart them with all new vaccinations.

So... I go with if it’s within 3 months it’s up to date.

It's the lepto booster that needs to be started again if not done every year, but I'm sure a small delay will be fine. As will your insurance.

Makes sense - thank you :)
