Boris Johnson has said it will be compulsory for all children in England to go to school when they reopen after the summer holidays.

May be a 'period of grace' before fines though.

I would also like to hear how this will work in schools with sixth forms. The older the child, the less likely and able they will be to catch up before the age of 18.
Sixth formers cannot be taught in 'bubbles' due to the endless permutations of qualification choices and no 'core' subjects being required. The relatively short timescales to learn subjects to a very high level that they may never have learnt before (sociology, economics, psyschology etc) as well as the high amount of practical work required in A'level science seems to require a high amount of face-to-face teaching in school. Which is what the government is currently saying is going to happen. But without any increased effort to reduce virus levels in the community and already local outbreaks, I am worried about very disrupted learning.

@oldbagface if shielding is coming to an end I think that's why many people as you put it dont understand the difference and why you wouldn't be sending your dc back?

I ask out of genuine wonder and totally not understand the difference myself, probably naivety on my part. I'm not being bitchy or awkward I like many others just dont get it.
If your not sending back til its safe, when does it become safe, what if it never becomes safe as we once knew it again? How long does it go on for your DC is missing out on education?

oldbagface · 30/06/2020 16:55

@Uhoh2020 I suppose when there's either a vaccine or lifesaving antivirals or other treatments. Or until new cases are negligible. Our school is an inner city secondary in a deprived area. 95 percent of pupils are bame. There are 1800 pupils. There is a very high percentage of pupils with Sen both physical and mental.

There is no possibility of distancing, keeping onto of hygiene and so on.

I didn't think you were being bitchy at all. Happy to give my view.

My DC is getting a good education at home from me.

I also think the length of time away from school may cause some issues for DC upon any return. DC has sen

Uhoh2020 · 30/06/2020 17:07

@oldbagface I agree there is no possibility of any SD on high school my ds high school is fairly small for a high school approx 750 pupils impossible to SD a school of that size never mind 1800 . The only way high schools will return is if its practically the same as it was before . I hope schools work with those with SEN to try strike some sort of balance

They are just showing the seed, they havent said for sure yet.

@Uhoh2020 shielding is 'pausing' if cases are low enough in August. But the pause does not make them like everyone else. Shielded individuals are still only being advised to return to work if the workplace is 'COVID safe'. Otherwise they are to work from home. They are also supposed to continue strict 2m social distancing, get online shopping and minimise contact with others outside of their household. How that tallies with 'everyone in school, no social distancing' I have no clue!

Recoverandthrive · 30/06/2020 20:22

Shielding has not been done because of health anxiety but due to a huge significant risk to life. Yes there are some with health anxiety but to say to shielding families you send your child to school or lose your place and those posters in support of this, well its plain flippancy and ignorance. But I have to say I am becoming more used to such ignorance as a result of people not being in the same boat and not caring to understand that.

By saying that children should attend school, but should engage in frequent hand washing and social distancing where possible.

It all seems a bit cake and arse

We aren’t being told the true infection rates. They are withholding the community infection rate from public view and do not include it in the daily figures they release. This means the figures look good but they aren’t accurate.

In the area I live in (East Midlands) the infection rate is back to what it was mid April.

They knew there was a problem in Leicester two weeks ago but didn’t act.

How can love authority, school or parent make an informed risk assessment without critical information?

*local authorities, schools or parents

Sorry I am tired.
