Getting children's feet measured

I haven't had the kids feet measured since Christmas. I am only buying cheap sainsbury's type pumps for the kids and the only child who is in uniform is wearing a pair of his brothers hand me downs.

I went to the local shoe shop and asked if I had to book to get feet measured. They said no, however there is no browsing as all the shoes have to be qaurenteened for 72 hours after trying them on.

I don't think i can handle that kind of stress with a five year old and a son with ASD. I tried drawing around their feet and they both look like they are at least a size bigger than they are in!

Are Clark's the same? Has anyone been to buy kids shoes recently?

Can I just keep buying the next size up when the current shoes feel to small?

What is everyone else doing? Pe plimpsoles are fine for my dd at £4 a pop. But not my son. He needs proper school shoes

You can buy foot measuring guides on eBay or amazon.

I'd print or buy a measuring guide and then order shoes online for the time being, but once things are bit more normal get them properly checked. I used to work in a kids shoe shop and the importance of proper fitting and decent quality shoes for growing feet was DRILLED into us. A pp is correct, it's not just the length and width that matters, but also the arch support and depth of the shoe. Some kids could pick literally any pair in the shop and they'd be a good fit; some poor things we struggled to find any shoes for at all.

You can book at Clarks, all felt well controlled and safe.

We went to Charles clinkards yesterday, tried on loads of different styles as my daughter has ridiculously narrow feet. The staff wore PPE but other than that it wasnt any different to the many other times we have been shoe shopping

Took ds to Clarks last week. It was fine. He sat behind a screen to have his feet measured. He'd grown a whole size since March and was down to the one pair we'd managed to get since lockdown! The lady brought out a selection of shoes in his size and written instructions on how to fit them. He tried a couple of pairs on and we checked them and then when he'd picked a pair it was back behind the screen to check fit. No stress at all and no restrictions on browsing/trying on.
