Sore Throat.... could this be it?

I know it’s not in the top 3 symptoms, but wondering if I should get tested? Do I phone 111 to find out? Or see how it goes?

you can get a free test online now, if you want to get it checked.

Knobblybobbly · 26/06/2020 18:07

It’s not sore exactly, more dry and peppery, if that makes sense.

Pretty certain I haven’t drunk enough in this heat so hoping if might just be dehydration

Is it a bit of an over reaction though? To get tested due to a mild sore throat?

ShipshapeShore · 26/06/2020 18:09

Pollen is high, might be that?

Knobblybobbly · 26/06/2020 18:10

Yes!! I used to get hayfever badly as a kid and it always effected my chest. Ok.... so tickley/dry throat could be hayfever?

I’ll take an antihistamine in an effort to eliminate!

My daughter had a sore throat on Monday, woke up with a high temperature on Tuesday so kept youngest off school and my husband didn't go to work. I booked a test on line at a drive through, I'm lucky there is one less than a mile away. We got the test results the next day that she was negative. If we hadn't done it school wouldn't have let the youngest (in yr 1) go back for 2 weeks.

Jrobhatch29 · 26/06/2020 18:17

I had a raging sore throat and headache at weekend. I got tested out of an abundance of caution as I wanted to see family in the garden this week. Negative.
Many people on these threads have had a positive test with sore throats and other vague symptoms. Tests are readily available so I would go for it

seenbeensbean · 26/06/2020 18:20

I've had on-off sore throats due to the pollen count being so high.

Knobblybobbly · 26/06/2020 18:21

A hospital 5 mins away is doing drive through tests

OP, are you going to be coming close to other people, eg on public transport /at work/ caring for an elderly relative? If so, good idea to get tested if you can.

PeasInAPot · 26/06/2020 19:09

My first symptoms were a sort of burny throat

Id drink some water, taken an antihistamine tonight. If its still there tomorrow Id get tested

ThatDamnScientist · 26/06/2020 19:12

I would get tested, results come back really quickly (mine was a home test kit, was delivered to me Friday and I had my results by Monday - negative). Better to test and get a negative than to not get tested and inadvertently pass to others you may be in contact with.

I had a test at a drive-in place for a sore throat, as advised by the King's London covid app. Came back negative

Lindy2 · 26/06/2020 19:39

Go and book a test.

A sore throat could be Coronavirus but just as likely could be a simple cold or hay fever. More likely than Coronavirus in fact.

A test will mean you'll know for sure so that you can take any appropriate action if needed or get on with things as normal if it's negative.

Knobblybobbly · 26/06/2020 20:53

My nose has started running and it all feels quite itchy inside my head. Took an antihistimjne about an hour ago and for a bit my throat felt better, but it’s back to dry/tickly/hot sensation.

I’m a key worker so I’m pretty certain I’d qualify for a test and as PP have said, I’d rather know sooner than later. My daughter is in reception and going to school. I’ll see how I’m am in the morning and drive through.

(Obviously will phone 111 first)

You don't need to ring 111. You can book online. www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/testing-and-tracing/get-an-antigen-test-to-check-if-you-have-coronavirus/

Sorry here

Knobblybobbly · 27/06/2020 06:38

Thank you. Have woken up and apart from feeling a bit dry my throat is definitely not as sore. So I’m kind of thinking it’s ok???

Knobblybobbly · 27/06/2020 11:23

Will that link be able to book me a drive through test?

OP posts:
Bellie99 · 27/06/2020 11:26

I think it depends on where you are. I booked at a centre thinking someone would test me, but when I got there I had to do it on mjyself.

Knobblybobbly · 27/06/2020 11:37

Ah ok. How was it?

My throat is no longer sore, just dry. I feel a bit rough (tired really, despite a good sleep) but no temp and no other symptoms. So not sure I qualify now?

OP posts:
Bellie99 · 27/06/2020 11:53

No idea whether you would qualify. I am pretty certain there are questions to answer as you start the website. . I was asked to go as the Zoe app picked up something fro headaches and ear ache that I had had for a couple of weeks. I had to enter volunteer as reason.
The actual test was uncomfortable rather than painful. They send a video for you to watch and then there are instructions to follow in the test pack. I got the results in 30 hours.

Jrobhatch29 · 27/06/2020 12:08

I booked a home test and it had an option to say if I had the main 3 symptoms or not (said to help them understand the range of symptoms). I ticked no and was still able to get a test

Hearhoovesthinkzebras · 27/06/2020 12:13

Why wouldn't you just have a test?

The symptoms you have might well be covid, you are a key worker and have a child going to school. If you do have it you have the potential to expose many people to a disease that could be very serious for them. Why not just test to be on the safe side?
