To France - we've had it booked since beginning of the year but did cancel our accommodation...

We booked a cabin too..

If the ferry is still running and you can find accommodation and are allowed into France without quarantine, you could go.

CarlaH · 24/06/2020 16:58

Depends on whether they will insist on masks being worn.

Lynda07 · 24/06/2020 16:59

The Woolwich ferry, maybe :-).

AdaColeman · 24/06/2020 17:02

What about the Air-Con in the cabins, restaurants etc? I'd be looking at the ferry company advice before deciding.

annabel85 · 24/06/2020 17:12

You'd be better to go now while transmission is low than when infection rates rise once everything starts opening back up.

HairyFloppins · 24/06/2020 17:17

We have just booked p&o dover to Calais to drive down to Spain if FCO says so. I didn’t fancy Brittany Ferries and being in a cabin. I have booked a refundable ticket in case we aren’t allowed.

newtb · 24/06/2020 17:20

Holiday accommodation has just opened in France. I was able to book 2 weeks in early September without a problem, less than 400€/week with private pool. So, shouldn't imagine you'll have a problem finding somewhere.

Orangeblossom78 · 24/06/2020 17:25

Probably. Could take some cleaning stuff and pop in and clean it yourself (cabin) if you are worried.

safariboot · 24/06/2020 17:26

Yes, a ferry wouldn't worry me. They're not crowded like a plane or train is.

Orangeblossom78 · 24/06/2020 17:26

Mind you we were all ill week after coming back with them in half term. It might not have been the ferry though as the services were very very busy on the way back.

Orangeblossom78 · 24/06/2020 17:27

They are crowded when busy especially when people are waiting to get to the cars in the lifts and stairwells.

cologne4711 · 24/06/2020 17:55

A short one like Dover-Calais yes, where you can go outside. I'd be less keen on a longer journey where you go in an overnight cabin like Harwich to Hook of Holland.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 24/06/2020 17:58

Nope. I think they are really crowded everywhere. Toilets, cafes, waiting to go up and down to car parks.

Frostylawns · 24/06/2020 18:03

We are! Really excited to get away as we’ve both been working long hard hours throughout this and really really need a break.

Orangeblossom78 · 24/06/2020 18:04

When you have a cabin you have your own toilet and sink. You could take your own food and drink and go to the cabin and just sleep in it which is what we tend to do. Then just have bit of queue to get to the car perhaps

Orangeblossom78 · 24/06/2020 18:05

What about Eurotunnel?

FinallyRelief · 24/06/2020 18:31

I think it's Portsmouth to Caen

whydoesitalwaysrainonme82 · 25/06/2020 23:14

No way.

norri · 25/06/2020 23:16

I'm considering the euro tunnel for a holiday to France or maybe Spain.

HairyFloppins · 25/06/2020 23:21

@whydoesitalwaysrainonme82

No way.

I recommend this thread for you.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 25/06/2020 23:47

No, I personally wouldn't.
Each to their own though.
My reasons being holidays are literally just starting to open up again then so

  • likely to be busy
  • what happens if abroad and things break out again/lockdowns etc

I'd rather wait and see how it all pans out before doing any holidays.
So we're not going on one this year, going to do day trips instead.

MayFayre · 26/06/2020 07:32

No. Too many people and I wouldn’t want to wear a face mask.

FinallyRelief · 26/06/2020 08:15

I think now is the best time before an increase in infection!

I read the post it seem people do want to get out there so to speak - safely

I think we would go on a ferry if we were driving to Europe but I would be insistent on increased hand-washing (not OTT but between surfaces) and generally you know surface alert. I would check travel insurance/breakdown cover just to make sure you are covered for the usuals.

Powerplant · 26/06/2020 08:53

We are and really looking forward to it, we have a cabin and will be taking taking plenty of appropriate cleaning wipes. Our other sailings had been cancelled twice so will definitely going.
