Are you still WFH?

My office is still very much “only come in if you need to, don’t come in if vulnerable.” Probably until Christmas!

It’s caused a huge change, all permanent desks are going, replacing with hot desk hubs and lockers. Only expected to be in two days a week when this is over.

Yes. At the moment I would not be allowed to work in the office even if I wanted to. Work are gearing up to allow some people to work in the office if they wish, but with much reduced occupancy.

PJ6M · 24/06/2020 22:18

Yep. They said they are stuck with the office due to the lease, but they're turning it into an informal space where people can meet only if they want to. Seems like we are going 100% remote forever. Big change.

Youngatheart00 · 24/06/2020 22:36

It seems like many businesses are using this as an excuse to exit properties and make employees sweat their own assets - heat (ha! Not relevant now but will be in the winter), light, space etc. I wonder in the long term what the affect on productivity will be.

I do feel strongly that ‘people by people’ and that human interaction is a fundamental part of work. Not all business can be done via a screen. Extremely depressing for us more social animals if this is the permanent future.

Firenight · 24/06/2020 22:43

Yes stuck WFH at least until schools go back properly and probably longer. I'm not missing the commute but I'm climbing the walls spending so much time with my husband and am missing contact with other humans and my social life around the work area very much indeed

B9008 · 24/06/2020 23:28

Mostly wfh but going in when I get fed up of t the noise at home and need a break and change of scene. Only ever two people in office at any one time (usually 12)

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 24/06/2020 23:37

DH has been at work (office based) throughout. They have now got the tech to allow people to WFH if necessary, but it's last resort rather than standard.

MarshaBradyo · 24/06/2020 23:37

I’m home but dh is

NotTerfNorCis · 25/06/2020 00:01

Yes, will be until the end of the year apparently. Wine

Nobodyputsdaisyinthecorner · 25/06/2020 00:02

I am but I’ve worked from home permanently for nearly 7 years now. Those saying it’s not natural would be surprised how easy it is to adapt and find social interaction in other ways.

Husband is still working from home in a separate room.

Cheesypea · 25/06/2020 00:07

Ill be wfh till september at least. Im going round the twist tbh.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 25/06/2020 00:10

DH and I both work mostly from home normally. We would both happily only go to the office occasionally. DH's work is largely international and I'm hoping more of my office are going to embrace remote working so I am not an exception.

Fatted · 25/06/2020 00:15

Absolutely no bloody idea, but the complete ineptitude to keep staff updated with what is going on day to day is not a new feature of my job unfortunately.

I'm looking for a new job. Coronavirus and lockdown has just brought everything that is wrong with my job to the forefront and I cannot physically face going back to that office.

Coronavirus and lockdown has just brought everything that is wrong with my job to the forefront and I cannot physically face going back to that office.

Had the same thoughts.

Jeaniealogy · 25/06/2020 00:24

I've worked from home for the past 11 years, my employer was too tight to fund office space for me - it's no great surprise that companies now see the fiscal benefits of a remote workforce

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 25/06/2020 00:27

Dh has been told he'll be at home until the New Year and then it might just be 1 or 2 days in the office. We both want him back in the office asap.

SedentaryCat · 25/06/2020 10:23
@SedentaryCat - I hope you've got a cold room and big fans for those servers with this heat! I remember some old servers actually catching fire many years ago when they were in just an office server room in summer.
We've got good ventilation thankfully, although I think they're adding a few degrees to the room temperature! I'll be happier when they are back in the office though.

ohthegoats · 25/06/2020 10:27

I'm a teacher WFH and I hate it. But it's not even slightly comparable to what my normal day-to-day would be like.

EllieQ · 25/06/2020 10:41

Yes, have been told we’ll be wfh for some time. People who need to be in the office will be given priority for returning, and social distancing will be in place (only using every other desk etc).

We were expected to wfh for one day a week before lockdown anyway (offices with hot desking and fewer desks than staff), but I’m finding it hard to be at home all the time. I miss interacting with colleagues - video calls and emails are not the same.

mug2018 · 25/06/2020 11:06

We have no plans to return to the office until potentially end Q1 2021
Microsoft Teams has been a god send for us as so easy to have face to face interactions
With a team spread country wide, it's is a little normal anyway
We do however have 'well-being' desks being set up in our local offices that we can book & go into the office if we are struggling at home.

I count myself to be incredibly fortunate with the company I work for

flack · 25/06/2020 11:29

If I no longer have to do the "annual fire safety" course, this WFH lark might start to have strong appeal. Probably a couple other online courses they'll have to drop since I'm not in office.

CaffiSaliMali · 25/06/2020 11:40

We have been WFH since 16 March and no expectation of going back for the foreseeable. We've been allowed to buy desks etc. to use at home, and specialist chairs, keyboards etc. have been couriered to staff to use at home.

Office is in central London so going back would involve public transport for pretty much everyone.

I would be surprised to be back this side of christmas.

puppymouse · 25/06/2020 12:16

I was 70% or so wfh anyway before COVID but now I don't think I will be returning. We had to do a questionnaire asking about our experiences and preferences and I have said I would like this to be permanent.

Got a lovely office set up at home my employer have helped fund and bar the paranoia that comes with not being able to get as good a sense of the overall vibe of a person or department because everything's remote, I love it.

Angelonia · 25/06/2020 12:26

DH and I are both still wfh and expect to be until September. After that it will probably be a combination of home and office. That's ok with both of us.

PTW1234 · 25/06/2020 12:31

Same as previous posters, will be wfh on a permanent basis now, they are downsizing the office and turning it into a hub for meetings and critical roles that can’t fully wfh.

They have said the government guidelines remain to work from home so that’s it. They are looking at allowing people back in part time in September from a wellbeing perspective

loutypips · 25/06/2020 12:36

Yes and hoping to continue when this is all over!
