Reopening places that don't seem to be in any guidance

I'm thinking e.g. toddler/baby groups. Obviously cannot expect these kids to distance, but that's allowed in nurseries. (I'm not saying the gov were wrong to prioritise nursery btw or that I don't understand the need to reduce contacts etc, I do.). When will these ever be able to resume?

Also I think some beauty treatments don't seem to be mentioned anywhere - threading, waxing etc?

I bet there are other things that don't appear in any of the guidance as either able to open or confirmed must remain shut?

From what I can see beauty salons can't open so I assume waxing etc is out for now?

SunbathingDragon · 24/06/2020 13:17

Soft play was explicitly told it would need to stay closed and I would imagine toddler groups are more likely to reopen at the same time or after soft play venues do.

SavoyCabbage · 24/06/2020 13:21

Toddler groups are largely volunteer run. Reopening schools is a huge undertaking with endless rules and responsibilities.

Soft play was specifically mentioned as not allowed.

All those beauty treatments are not allowed, only hairdressers. That was mentioned.

MeadowHay · 24/06/2020 13:35

I don't really see how soft play type places could reopen prior to next year though surely, assuming an uptick over the winter? I'm concerned a lot of these types of businesses will go bust and close and a lot of volunteer groups for little ones will never return again after a prolonged period of absence.

Can someone also explain to me some other things e.g. why are nail bars not allowed to reopen? Surely hairdressers go closer to their customers faces than manicurists? Why are swimming pools not allowed to reopen when it's fine for campsites to have shared washing and toileting facilities? Really don't understand some of it

We were wondering similar. Our toddler goes to a gym which is more like an actual gym with gymnastics teachers than soft play, if that makes sense, and they said that as a childcare setting they were closing when the school's shut, which is what happened. Most of the other baby classes in our area stopped the week before. However they haven't reopened yet because they're not a school/nursery which is fine but will they be able to reopen when gyms do, or when soft play does (which I imagine is going to be later on) ....

I also read that community centres can reopen in England, so does that mean that the stuff that takes place in them can also restart? Like parties, baby classes etc? I'm assuming not but if they can't rent out the space then how is it financially viable for them to be open? And what are people going to go there for if there's nothing on?

I didn't understand that apparently leisure centres can reopen but not gyms or swimming pools? What else is in a leisure centre?

I’m hoping the toddler groups/playgroups at our children’s centre (sure start) will open soon as they’re run by paid staff and are regulated.

givemushypeasachance · 24/06/2020 14:21

Where has anyone said leisure centres can re-open? The gov.uk website says:

all businesses and venues can reopen from 4 July, except for the list below, which remain closed in law:

Nightclubs
Casinos
Bowling alleys and Indoor skating rinks
Indoor play areas including soft-play
Spas
Nail bars, beauty salons and tanning salons
Massage, tattoo and piercing parlours
Indoor fitness and dance studios, and indoor gyms and sports venues/facilities
Swimming pools including water parks
Exhibition or conference centres must remain closed for events such as exhibitions or conferences, other than for those who work for the business or organisation who run the venue.

thewheelsonthebus23 · 24/06/2020 14:22

My local church playgroup posted on Facebook saying as soon as it’s allowed, they’ll be re opening.

NeedToAsk123 · 24/06/2020 14:22

You can get your hair done but not nails or get a tattoo? Seems totally ridiculous really.

Especially as Nails and Tatts are already used to wearing PPE and Tattoo studios have to be particularly clean

SavoyCabbage · 24/06/2020 14:34

Leisure centres aren’t reopening. It’s the government’s‘absolute aspiration’ to open them.

Angel2702 · 24/06/2020 14:40

Playgroups etc I would imagine won’t open until limits on gatherings are changed as they will be indoor gatherings of multiple people.

Bol87 · 24/06/2020 14:47

I went to a lovely baby massage class with DD1 & I was hoping to go with DD2. It’s run in a community centre.. babies aren’t mobile. Classes are 8 max in a big hall so easily 2m apart if needed.. 🤷🏼‍♀️ The poor lady who runs hasn’t a clue if she’s allowed to restart 😫

Mistlewoeandwhine · 24/06/2020 14:54

I tutor kids (individually) in an office within my home. I can’t do it and maintain 2m - no real guidance though. I don’t feel it’s safe but I have a couple of parents badgering next to return to face to face tutoring (currently doing online).

Uglymug01 · 25/06/2020 20:48

I know a beauty salon/aesthetics clinic that has been operating all this week and is open for any appointments up until 9pm 7 days a week.

I thought they were still not allowed to open yet?

Floralnomad · 25/06/2020 20:51

I’m assuming it’s because for manicures / facials you are face to face whereas with hairdressers for the most part you are not .
