Wow, I was never a fan of lockdown but when you read this, it does make you think what could’ve happened.

Pakistan already was in chaos.

The blood plasma thing is typical developing country inequality combined with bizarre beliefs, again fairly common.

How many doctors & nurses have died there of covid?

Alex50 · 29/06/2020 11:07

Who knows, do they keep data of medical staff dying of Covid?

Definitely need to sort out the arrival from some countries. Brazil/USA etc.
You cannot have people quarantining with another family. Because the family will still be going out to school etc. Need to put them in hotels (unless they are returning to their own empty house).

Surely Pakistan will drown under this if their hospitals are full already but still growing to over a million by end of jul.
212m population is huge!

Anyone slagging off Boris needs to read this and give their head a wobble.

Sadly yes, they probably will, so I'd expect many of those who are able to leave the country

Best get on with monitoring those arrivals, along with others from the US, Brazil, etc. ... except they won't of course because that would instantly be deemed racist

goldfinchfan · 29/06/2020 17:06

So not good to read that 50% of Covid found on travellers back form Pakistan.

When I we going to screen at our borders?

Alex50 · 29/06/2020 17:12

It’ll be interesting to see what will happen there in the next 6 months.

We will never control it here though until people are tested before they get on a plane to the UK. I don’t understand why they can’t do this, include the test in the price of the airline ticket.

10 of the Pakistan cricket team tested positive.

That 50% headline used by so many is a bit misleading, it's 50% of only 60 people. 10 are cricketers, then I saw another 7 cricketers had tested positive, so that's 17 were effectively one group travelling together plus 13 others. 13 doesn't sound like many given the situation, it's less than 0.5 of a person per flight from Pakistan in that period. Ban sports teams from travelling perhaps! I know it's bad in Pakistan, but it's bad in many other countries too, I support caution around open borders without quarantine but I'd like to see consistency in how rules are applied and I don't like the tone of the newspapers jumping on "aha it's 50%" when many don't read past headlines.

goldfinchfan · 29/06/2020 18:42

It's true that was a headline that made it sound far worse.

Also we should be screening at all borders from all countries.
At least do a temp check FFS !

ShootsFruitAndLeaves · 30/06/2020 08:08

Are they testing travellers? Or did they test them because they are cricketers?

Alex50 · 30/06/2020 08:12

Only because they are cricketers, they should be doing it for everyone, it’s crazy, when you travel on a plane or ferry included in yourticket you pay for a test. The tests are getting better and better, there must be a way to do this.
