Meeting family indoors

The move to meet one other household inside at a time but to not hug one another seems ridiculous. If all honesty how many people are going to follow this without breaking social distancing.

Yes it’s a bit rubbish but so thankful I can jist see my mum again, even if it will be weird.

Mangomumma · 23/06/2020 14:40

If I have my parents over there's no way I'm stopping my kids from hugging them!

Outside it's easier but surely most peoples houses aren't that big that we can all keep away from each other?!

I think people just need to be sensible. I'm not bothered about going to a pub or restaurant so think we'll take the measured risk of hugging them.

frozendaisy · 23/06/2020 14:41

Too far from grandparent but friends, yeah can get by not hugging as long as we can stay over to not drive home

Racoonworld · 23/06/2020 14:44

It's sensible, it's quite a big leap from outside to inside visits, so they couldn't say go and do what you like, but doing it this way allows people to go visit family they haven't seen for ages. It's a compromise. It'll be relaxed further in four weeks as long as people are sensible and the cases don't rise.

DidSheReallySayThat20 · 23/06/2020 14:45

So is it one other, other than the bubble already allowed.

Racoonworld · 23/06/2020 14:52

@DidSheReallySayThat20 I would assume that if you're in a single person bubble you would be classed as one 'household' together, so you could all meet one other household at one time. Not sure this has been confirmed though but would seem likely

Catsmother1 · 23/06/2020 16:13

It’s great we can go inside, but seems crazy we can’t hug.

So single mum with 3 kids can visit parents, and hug,

but married mum with no kids can’t hug parents?!

Parky04 · 23/06/2020 16:16

Do whatever you want to do. Most people have been for weeks and there hasn't been a second wave!

hilbil21 · 23/06/2020 16:28

Do you think we would be allowed to drive from Scotland to England and stay overnight in England now? As once in England it would be English law we are following?

I guess so unless Scotland has a rule about how far you’re allowed to travel.

hilbil21 · 23/06/2020 17:17

You can travel as far as you want to visit friends or family as long as you can go there and back in the same day, but that was before today's announcement. I've emailed our local member of the Scottish parliament she's going to find out for me Smile

Blossom513 · 23/06/2020 17:27

Presumably you've had the entirety of lockdown to have hugs and support from your husband. You also had the option to meet up with one other person outdoors much earlier than single parents could.
A single mum has had no other adult hug or support until last weekend. the bubble is not about numbers of people. It's about supporting single adults isolated on their own for months, with or without kids. HTH.

Blossom513 · 23/06/2020 17:30

With regards to meeting indoors and distancing, they will have accounted for some people won't stick to it and some will. They absolutely know people will break it. The question is whether they have modelled it to the right proportions to prevent overall transmission rate.

Spied · 23/06/2020 17:31

Mil will now expect DC to go and stay.
GreatHmm.

Apparently not:

hilbil21 · 23/06/2020 17:38

Thanks for that Curly. Very annoying Sad

Willow2017 · 23/06/2020 17:54

"If you are Scottish and visiting England, you should follow the advice of the UK government for England."

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 23/06/2020 17:58

So...Scottish guidance says I can travel as far as I like to visit family. English says I can stay overnight. So surely I can travel to see family in England and then stay the night?

hilbil21 · 23/06/2020 18:00

If I get a reply from our MSP regarding this I will confirm what it is here incase anyone needs it as the article isn't exactly clear and doesn't mention visiting family

Willow2017 · 23/06/2020 18:11

But NS did say the 5 miles didn't apply to visiting family. So if you travel to England you stick by thier rules so can stay.

singme · 23/06/2020 18:14

Oh Sad I live in Scotland and I’ve got a 12 week old that my parents have never seen. Was in tears all morning at the end of my tether, desperate to see them (sleep deprived). The announcement today made my day, hoping to visit in 3 weeks. It’s not like I’m going on holiday, was planning to stay at home as much as possible before going and after coming back.

singme · 23/06/2020 18:15

@Willow2017 that makes sense. Should be ok then.

hilbil21 · 23/06/2020 18:24

Yeah I don't see how they can say it isn't. But will feel a lot better about driving to Portsmouth if they say it is lol Smile

Lifeispassingby · 23/06/2020 18:25

My understanding is 2 households at a time, not exclusively and social distancing needs to be maintained

Yes that’s how I understood it to. But here’s one. Can you now get in a car with another household so long as you kept social distance. Does a car count as inside?
