Going into hospital for appointments how to prep?

I'm shielding but over last few days my health condition has worsened dramatically and it looks like I'll have to go in at least for a day and maybe scans. Can't believe this is happening as I've been so careful with keeping my health stable and haven't been out since before start of lockdown.
What is likely to happen re appointments and scans? What are patients wearing in hospital in terms of protection? I have gloves and a basic mask and a small bottle of hand sanitizer.

So I've had my appointments. The first was very efficient and the clinic was great, spaced out seating, only two of us in waiting room, only waited 5 mins. Second appointment more disorganised and despite waiting in car to be asked in I ended up in an airless dirty waiting room for an hour with others, where everyone sort of wore masks. Interesting that no staff were wearing face shields (though I did have some very hands on exams/tests) and none of the receptionists were behind a shield. Interesting to see the difference between areas in the same hospital.
Hope everyone remains unscathed after their experiences.
