When will we be allowed inside houses?

As above. If pretty much all shops are opening, pubs, hairdressers etc logically we must be allowed inside people's houses as well? I've been reading lots about the pubs and reducing the distance from 2 to 1m but nothing about visiting family inside etc. Has anyone seen anything indicating when this might happen?

OP posts:

If someone had told you last year that you'd be asking permission to go into your family member or friend's house from the government, would you have believed them?

Just go in if you want to. Stay out if you don't.

Eachpeachtree · 22/06/2020 12:56

Just seen on bbc news app that NI are allowing it soon, just for family, so I’d imagine it will be happening here in the near future (hopefully!!)

Camomila · 22/06/2020 13:02

I think July 4th.

DH thinks they'll open pubs gardens etc with 1m distance but the compromise will be that we can't go in people's houses.

Atm we're all just guessing though.

My DM keeps joking she'll pay me £10 to be her cleaner Grin then I'm allowed in. More seriously my maternity leave ends July 1st so I hope we get answers soon!

I also feel it seems strange how you can do so many things except go into other people's houses, unless you're a nanny, cleaner, estate agent, builder or workman etc. I just want to go to my mum's house and have a cup of tea, watch TV together, have ds run around etc. Just normal family time! I'm missing that more than anything.

Do it in that case.

Me too, I just want to watch a light hearted murder mystery show (mum loves then and I complain about them) while DM cuddles the baby and DS1 plays on his car rug.

RogueHumanoid · 22/06/2020 13:14

I thought they already could. My neighbours are always having people around and yesterday they had a very large party in the garden, it started raining so they all moved in the house and carried on in thereConfused

Badmemorieshouse · 22/06/2020 13:15

Just do it then, seriously 🙄

Littlegoth · 22/06/2020 13:18

When they say so? Personally the government can ‘allow’ this in theory, but no one will be coming into my home until I’m confident there is no risk. I’m not there yet.

Hugglespuffed · 22/06/2020 13:21

I am giving up with the logic now. I am booking a hotel to be able to visit family. Bonkers.

Angelonia · 22/06/2020 13:22

The other things you mention in your OP all have a beneficial effect on the economy, that's why they're allowed. Going to each other's houses increases the risk of transmission without any benefit to the economy.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 22/06/2020 13:23

My family seem to think its allowed already. Provided it benefits them and only them of course. If it's to help me in any way shape or form then its "against the rules" Hmm

SisyphusAndTheRockOfUntidiness · 22/06/2020 13:27

I hope to goodness it’s soon. We need some work done (some work that wasn’t done properly before we moved house - in February!) We have no functioning hob as a result. The builders won’t rectify it until guidelines say they can enter houses. Fair, but extremely annoying.

FlowersAreBeautiful · 22/06/2020 13:29

I assume it's because it's difficult for family to stay 2m apart so that's why we can't go into houses. But as a teacher I can spend all day with my class inside and a 2m distance inside at lunch with colleagues but I can't see my mum and dad inside (they live too far for a day garden visit). Hoping for 4th July to change to inside visits

I’m so sick of seeing these sorts of replies. Yes, we know some people disagree with the regulations but you don’t need to keep posting on threads asking about them.
TheDailyCarbuncle · 22/06/2020 13:34

@violetscone I don't know why you think you can police who posts on threads, but you can't. I will continue to post when and as I want.

violetscone · 22/06/2020 13:36

Your posts are not relevant on a thread about changes to the regulations. I’m so sick of people sneering and sniping at those of us who actually want to discuss what’s permitted.

TheDailyCarbuncle · 22/06/2020 13:36

Your post isn't relevant to this thread either.

I completely agree.

Use your own best judgement and risk assessment. The government won't do that for you.

The virus is going nowhere. If you want to avoid it entirely, then act accordingly.

RaininSummer · 22/06/2020 13:44

It is annoying that pubs and shops will be open but still not supposed to go in family homes. We won't be going in pubs or shops but would like to be able to visit family legally.

yomommasmomma · 22/06/2020 13:45

The papers are saying that Boris will announce these on Tuesday. We will all be allowed to make a bubble with another household and go inside, stay overnight etc. I think the plan is just one other household, everyone else will have to be outside, 2m's away as we are doing now.

TheDailyCarbuncle · 22/06/2020 13:49

People in Northern Ireland have been granted the enormous privilege of seeing their own families: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-53130995

imsooverthisdrama · 22/06/2020 13:54

Well my mum called round last week and it was raining so I wasn't sitting in the rain .
She had a coffee sat a distance and we didn't hug.
I've not been near anyone nor has she so I think the risk is low.

nannyplumsmagranny · 22/06/2020 13:57

Just do it but wash your hands.

I've had my family over in mine. We mostly stayed outside but they did come in to use the toilet. Cleaned before they got here with a fresh towel, cleaned after they'd used it and once they'd left.

dh, son and I used the bathroom upstairs upstairs.

Hugglespuffed · 22/06/2020 14:00

@yomommasmomma this just wouldn't suit so many..what about people who live in house shares who would like to see their parents? What about grandparents of 2 or more sets of grandchildren ?
