I mostly think no but occasionally I think well it could happen? What do you think?

I think trailfinders quoted me 160 for one trip or 250 for a year

HairyFloppins · 21/06/2020 17:33

That was for three adults and one child by the way!

BarefootHippieChick · 21/06/2020 20:34

hellsbells what kind of destinations? Is it more essential travel do you think?

Mumto3thatsme · 21/06/2020 20:43

I thought the foreign office advised against travel, not an outright ban?
We’re hoping to go to France next month, drive down to a holiday home we have booked

Isn't travel insurance invalid in the event of the FCO advising against foreign travel?

Mumto3thatsme · 21/06/2020 20:53

Yes, hoping the advice changes, but will likely still go regardless. Unless it becomes a rule not to travel.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 21/06/2020 21:44

There are insurance companies covering Covid now. Post office are and so are StaySure.

Charlottejade89 · 23/06/2020 08:45

I'm hoping so, we have a week in kefalonia booked for 29th august and if my flight is going, were going no matter what. I think there will be air bridges built between some European countries before then as their economy depends on british tourism

pigeon999 · 23/06/2020 08:51

Please do not go if you are relying on E111 cards to get you through a medical illness/crisis whilst holidays in Greece, and have no travel and medical insurance.

I was bitten by mosquitos in Greece and caught a nasty infection and was admitted to a greek hospital. It was extremely basic to say the very least, nobody spoke English and the care was really primitive. They do not have vast well resourced hospitals, they are extremely basic and the last place you would want to be with CoVid.

If you have the insurance to cover you for coronavirus for private hospitals in Greece possibly, but if you are winging it and hoping for the best then be aware of the risks of being so ill so far from home with basic healthcare at best.

Normalmumandwife · 23/06/2020 08:55

We are also scheduled for Greece...Kefalonia as well. We are insured fully as booked before Covid. Any policies booked after the pandemic was declared do NOT have any Covid cover, except basic medical cover which I think the govt forced in companies to make sure they didn't have CV victims abroad with no medical assistance.

So anyone going this year or next year who booked after 13 March won't have cover except medical and sensible to check that!

pigeon999 · 23/06/2020 09:01

It is also worth checking that the islands actually have hospitals, and if they do are ventilators generally available etc?

Our trip at the end of Feb was cancelled when we found out the nearest hospital was a 1000 miles away on the mainland, and they only have two ICU beds. Your chances of being ill with CoVid are small, but will increase risk from air travel, airports and transfers etc. Is it a place that could look after you or the children if the worst happened?

Itsallpointless · 12/07/2020 12:49

I am thinking of booking for Corfu in August, do you think this is wise? Has anyone been since Greece opened up?

Would appreciate some advice before 'go to checkout'Grin

WhiteChocTwix · 12/07/2020 14:26

@Itsallpointless I would check the websites of any hotels you're planning to stay at and see what mitigation plans they have in place. We're going to Greece beginning of Sept. Was looking at the hotel websites this morning and they have plans in place such as you can order your breakfast and they deliver to your room to eat on the balcony instead of a buffet! (Which sounds fab). Also monitoring numbers in the pool, which I think will be ok as we've booked small boutique hotels. Also lots of deep cleaning. Take plenty of masks and sanitizer and enjoy it if you decide to go! Worth checking what the rules on mask wearing in public places are and considering if that would spoil your trip or not.
