My friends mum works there it is not huge if at all apparently

Deblou43 · 17/06/2020 21:35

Hygienic ... they are taking action now WTF

Bol87 · 17/06/2020 22:14

Similar to the meat factory outbreak in Germany this week.. not too surprising I suppose. But also not that problematic as VERY easy to track, trace & isolate!

torydeathdrug · 17/06/2020 22:20

There have been loads of outbreaks in meat processing facilities in multiple countries - close contact, confined working area, long hours, cool temperature. Germany has one with over 600 cases atm ... like Bol said though these outbreaks are thankfully easy to track & isolate.

Damn. I just had a whole cooked chicken on my Tesco delivery today. Would you eat it? Not sure if it's from that factory, but I am in Wales.

marcus242628 · 18/06/2020 00:03

Are they still working close together now? Otherwise surely confined working area and long hours would make it like many other working environments the only difference being the lower temperature??

Apparently another factor is people shouting to make themselves heard over noisy machinery.

Finfintytint · 18/06/2020 09:14

Strawberry, yes. My DH says distancing is difficult because people naturally move closer together to make themselves heard in a noisy environment. He’s food industry too and they had a big outbreak early on.

Dorual · 18/06/2020 11:22

So is the food from affected factories safe to eat?

DdraigGoch · 19/06/2020 00:00

Food will be as fine (or not) as it would be in normal times. In the time it takes to get from the factory to your plate via the oven the virus should have died off. Personally I keep away from any factory farming though.

I'm not surprised at all. 2 Sisters didn't have the best hygiene controls anyway, a significant number of their staff in Llangefni walked out recently when management didn't take their complaints seriously.

Fatted · 19/06/2020 00:05

If they are anything like the chicken 'factory' near where I live, they will also pay people the absolute minimum and will not pay sick pay etc. So workers have probably had to drag themselves in with a temperature etc and spread it like wildfire.
