Before I start yes we're going to isolate and I'm going to get tested but don't drive so it will take a few days.

I am so scared I've caught it. I had to get a taxi a week ago (both I and the driver wore a mask) and for the past two days I've had a really sore throat and just feel really tired. I have severe health anxiety/am overweight and disabled so this is my worst nightmare.
If I do have it how long will it be until I know if I'm out of the woods? Are there any indicators of a more severe disease? I currently have no temp or cough aside from when I feel I need to clear my throat as I feel as though I have something stuck in it.

I know there is a chance it may not be covid at all but this is the first time I've been unwell since the pandemic so freaking out a bit.

A sore throat and sensation of having something stuck in it is a very common symptom of anxiety. Especially people with health anxiety. The more you focus on your throat the more it will feel this way. I think there’s a high chance it’s that. Try and do something to distract you. Something that will really take your mind off and away.

I think the best practical thing you can whilst you're get better is get your immune system in the best shape it can be. Eat nutritious food, go into your garden if you have one (for vitamin D), drink lots, rest a lot, have a well ventilated room when indoors, don't share towels. Hopefully other people may be able to share more tips.

OP, I had a sore throat, bad headache, terrible sinus pain, blocked ears and feeling generally very under the weather from Thursday

I had exactly the same symptoms . Felt like death warmed up all week with the sore throat moving around from one side to the other then descending down into my upper chest. No temperature .No cough. Checked with NHS online and 111 for specific and non-specific covid symptoms.
Both came back as nothing more that a mild illness.
It lasted 7 days just like a cold.

Covid can start with a sore throat but so can other viruses. Do the test - a positive result is reliable but a negative is not because 30% of infected people get a negative result. Best thing whether or not it’s Covid is lots of fluid and rest. If it is Covid the time when it can become serious (in a minority of people) is days 7-14. If you get through that I think the current thinking is that you will be OK.

I agree with all those saying just because you don’t have any of the 3 main symptoms then you don’t need a test and probably don’t have it.

Had I not been filling in the Kings college symptom tracker through which I had the test I would probably never have known that I had it and would have carried on as normal as I’ve never had any of the 3 main symptoms.

I had a mild sore throat, some general muscle aches in my legs and a strange feeling in the back of my throat like it was too dry and I needed to clear it. After testing positive I’ve had mild diarrhoea on and off and some shortness of breath.

Totally understand the anxiety side of things after testing positive I ended up ringing the Drs and 111 several times as I was so scared of the symptoms get worse and deteriorating rapidly and a lot of my symptoms afterwards were anxiety related. Luckily, for me my dr was very calm and reassuring and I am now 6 weeks post positive test result.
Can’t say paranoia still doesn’t take over some days but generally getting over the horror of having tested positive now.

Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea

I had all of this back in Feb except the loss of taste and smell and have pondered whether I could have had it.

Anyway OP try not to panic. I have health anxiety too and chances are it’s more because you’ve been dwelling on the fact you got a taxi that’s a factor.

I’ve had quite a few sore throats and feeling meh for a couple of days since lockdown, never came to anything, try not to worry, stay home, get a test, and look after yourself x

Only my own opinion but I doubt you have it, given your recent habits and the fact that you have described how my body deals with seasonal allergies.

Again, only my own opinion.

I never had a fever or cough before testing either.
I was generally shattered, I worked a 12 hour shift and walking upstairs made me out of breath. I said it was working 12 hours that did it.
Then the next day a ponding headache like a crown that was too tight, I assumed it was a migraine and hayfever.
Then I got tested, then two days later, no taste no smell, no smell still 6 weeks later and a rotten cough still too.
I got worse day after day, coughing till you are dizzy from not breathing, and aching bones so bad I couldn't get off the bed or the loo once I got there.
Get tested anyway, they post you a swab and you follow directions and they will pick it up if you can't go to the test centre.

How's it going OP?
I hope you're ok 🙏💙

Beebityboo · 16/06/2020 09:29

Someone suggested I take anti histamines and it worked! After an hour I almost felt totally fine and just napped most of yesterday. Never really suffered with hay-fever or allergies so didn't think to take any.
Thanks for the advice everyone. Feel mostly back to normal today. Just think I'm letting my anxiety get on top of me a bit.
