To get tested? Does this sound like coronavirus?

My husband has woken today with a sore throat and upset stomach. He now has a headache, temperature of 38.8 and feels achey too. We’ve had no contact with anyone other than delivery drivers and he and the kids have only left the house for the occasional bike ride. Should he book a test or do we see how he goes? Trying to decide if given our lack of contact with anyone if he’s more likely to pick it up from the person testing him.

He has a temperature. That’s one of the three key symptoms. Of course he needs to book a test and you all need self isolate.

Thank you. I wasn’t sure about the testing side of it. Will definitely all be self isolating.

Yes, get a test. If it’s negative you won’t need to isolate for the 14 days.

cathyandclare · 14/06/2020 16:58

The government has said there is now no shortage of tests and that it's vital for anyone with symptoms to get tested, so I'd book one now. The testers were great when I was tested at a drive in centre. You stay in the car and it's as distanced as possible. I hope he recovers quickly.

mrseffington · 14/06/2020 17:44

Get tested! You do the test yourself even at the centres and they remain distant - you're not even allowed to open your car window other than an inch to fling your test in and then to fling it into a bucket at the end. I booked a test on a Sunday evening for Monday afternoon and had the results 24 hours later

Realitea · 14/06/2020 17:49

Definitely book a test now. I can’t think how he must’ve caught it though.

CherryStoneTree · 14/06/2020 17:51

Yes book a test, by the time you wait to see and then it happens it might be too late to test positive.
Delivery drivers/shopping etc are all vectors for spreading it, opening a gate/touching a park bench where someone else has touched are all possibles as well sadly.

cheninblanc · 14/06/2020 17:58

I had a test yesterday and the results came 12 hours later. I'd get a test

Bol87 · 14/06/2020 18:10

I got a test based on a sore throat and really bad headache.. they don’t ask any questions, there are literally hundreds of free slots at the test centres around me! I went yesterday & got my results in 12 hours! Meant I’ve been able to go out as normal today!

whatsleep · 14/06/2020 18:12

Yes get tested. Hope your DH feels better soon.

16943389ao · 14/06/2020 19:04

Thank you everyone he’s all booked in. Hopefully it’ll be negative.

My partner had a headache for 6 days before his lost his taste and smell... Anyone with these symptom please get tested as well. It takes 2 days if you're getting a home test to be ordered, delivered and sent back as well

16943389ao · 14/06/2020 20:59

Thank you @Spocklesdream I hope he’s recovering ok. The symptoms seem to fit would just be really unlucky as we’ve been so cautious. Did you get it too?

I think it's where he works, he works in a massive warehouse where we live and there's been an outbreak there Confused.

If he's positive, I think track and trace are gonna have a field day tracing everyone who has worked there.

He's doing well thank you 😊 if I'm honest, if it weren't for his loss taste/smell, he would've been able to have gone to work as normal.

Maryann1975 · 14/06/2020 21:09

I was tested as a volunteer with no symptoms last week, so there are definitely enough tests for everyone who needs them. You can all be tested I think? Definitely better to be tested and get a negative than to isolate for 14 days because you might have it when really it was something else all along.

clary · 14/06/2020 21:11

yes with a high temp please book a test. Not painful, just uncomfortable and results back quickly.

clary · 14/06/2020 21:13

@spocklesdream test and trace are only interested in close contacts - nearer than 2m for 15 mins without PPE so as long as his work us socially distancing it won't be that bad. If I was positive my only close contacts would be my immediate family tbh.

Ernieshere · 14/06/2020 21:13

It does sound very likely,

Im.on week 13 and being zeen by a Post Covid Team for rehab, so make sure he rests & rests.

Clary, it's not like that in his workplace. If, I'm honest they don't have PPE and there is over 200 in warehouse at same time. Face masks haven't been made compulsory.

If, he does test positive, I can only assume that his work is gonna have to send everyone home that's on his shift pattern....

Be safe everyone and still keep careful. Make sure you're still taken all precautions. Just because it might seem its over for everyone, it's not and it's still here!

Spocklesdream · 14/06/2020 21:32

Taking* not taken sorry.

clary · 14/06/2020 21:35

If they haven't been advised /able to socially distance then that's poor.

We are really strict at my place, one-way systems, two metre lines marked, only X number in any room. Ds2's school which is back next week has a similar set up.

Has your DH been working closely with colleagues with no PPE?

16943389ao · 14/06/2020 22:06

@Ernieshere sorry to hear that. What were your initial symptoms? He’s now going hot and cold. The symptoms all really tie in just seems crazy as we’ve literally stayed at home for three months not stepped foot in a supermarket and gone on the occasional bike ride. I hope you recover soon. I’m terrified I really struggle with health anxiety and struggle when anyone in our family is ill without the coronavirus situation. @Spocklesdream glad he’s doing ok. I hope he recovers soon and you all stay well. That’s crazy about his work place.

Let us know what the test said, OP. It's almost certainly not Rona. Bacteria that can make us sick are all over our ordinary environment, as I'm sure you often worry about. Will be interesting to hear for sure.

16943389ao · 01/07/2020 23:30

@ragged sorry only just seen your message. It was negative which makes sense given how little we’ve been out. It took him a day or two to recover, it seems like it was a random bug.
