I think I’ve cracked a tooth

Apologies if this is in the wrong place, I thought posting it here would be okay as the dentists are closed due to coronavirus.

I have been getting niggly pain for a couple of day’s and today I felt as if my tooth wasn’t right, I think it might be cracked, or maybe it’s a hole. I can’t see fore sure as it’s the very back upper tooth I’m unsure what to do. The pain isn’t bad at the moment so I don’t know if I should call the dentist or wait until it’s worse. I’m not sure there is anything the dentist can do anyway.

I’m in Scotland so it looks like the dentists can’t see anyone until phase 3 or it might be 4 and that could be approx 6/8 weeks away maybe longer.

Does anyone have any advice, and once again I apologise if this is in the wrong place.

At least here, in Wales, there is no services, you can get antibiotics and pain killers but unless it falls into a narrow situation then they will extract but there is no repairs. My husband cracked his tooth, it's horrendous just waiting for them to open.

I'm in Scotland and had raging toothache and ear ache a few weeks ago. If you can hold off until Monday phone your dentist - mine had hours they were answering calls. All they can really do is give advice or refer you to the dental hospital. Mine did say if they refer you all the dental hospital will do is remove the tooth. She did also say if you lose a filling they can give you something on a temp basis. (I think they may also prescribe antibiotics if it sounds like an abscess).
Pleased to say mine went in a few days, but my advice was pain killers and phone back in a few days if not any better.

Thank you. As I said it isn’t too bad just now so will hold off and see what happens. I’ve been reading up on it and it looks like proper dental treatment won’t happen for a very long time (yikes), if it gets so bad and they need to pull it then I will just need to accept that, it’s the very last tooth at the back infact it might actually be a wisdom tooth x

In England you can buy a temporary filling (my dentist recommended i did this) from Boots or Superdrug. Also amazon would have it. You fit it yourself. Apparently it's like chewing gum texture. But your teeth need to be very clean before you do this so you are not trapping any food in there. I'm seeing my dentist next week So i decided to wait and just bought some corsydl mouthwash to avoid any infection. With corsydl mouthwash my dentist said only use for 3 days or so otherwise it can start to damage your enamel. Try and call your dentist anyway though there should be someone who can advise you over the phone . Good luck!

Thank you Spinakker where the crack/hole is I wouldn’t be able to fill it as it’s the back of my tooth and at the very back of my jaw. I’m unsure whether to call if it’s just a niggly pain?

I would call because there will likely be a waiting list so at least you can get your name down. It's always best not to leave dental problems as they can get worse and you need more treatment than you would have done in the beginning of the problem.

In England there is emergency dental treatment from a group of practices on a rota. My own (private) dentist has cancelled my routine appt next month as they appear to be dealing only with emergencies for a while.
